My husband and I went on the two hour Segway tour with Rick last month. I usually reserve reviews for things that are 5 star experiences, but I thought it was important to write this one anyway. The Segway part of the tour was great as Segways are always a fun way to see a city, and our tour actually lasted for an extra half hour. The Rick part of the tour was so upsetting that it has taken me a month to write this review. Using very canned, sterotypical speech, almost as if he could hear a laugh track in his own head, he gave us the most racially and culturally insensitive narrative of historic Pensacola. He let us know how we were thankfully in the Bible Belt and thank goodness surrounded by "good Christians", not like in Miami that is just "North Cuba" or "those people" in New Orleans or New York. He implored us to consider the incredible kindness shown to the captured Apache natives who were imprisoned in the fort instead of in jail cells. He told us that Geronimo's wife was actually buried in the Christian cemetery ("I mean of course she doesn't have a headstone, just a wooden cross, but she is buried with the rest of the Christians!"). He told us of the freed African women who worked in the brothel ("they were free, but they were not 'free' - ha ha"). We cringed along with him until he got to the part where he told us that Florida was the third state to secede from the Union and that it had nothing to do with slavery, only the excessive taxation of the Union. When he got to the part where he told us that the freed Africans were sad about being freed because "they had had free room and board", I couldn't stand it any more and asked him to just please stop talking. "Well," he said, "they had to toil a little for the room and board, but it was free." When I told him that he couldn't possibly think this was an acceptable way to portray the kidnapping, brutalizing, and enslaving a whole race of people over hundreds of years, he finally backed down and rolled it back, being very obsequious for the rest of the tour. The whole tour sadly left such a sour taste in our mouths about the otherwise beautiful city of Pensacola. As Maya Angelou said, "Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better."Had a great segway tour with Nik. Very informative and fun-- great way to explore the downtown area!

This was a great experience for the family. The facts we learned about the area were interesting. The Segways let our group cover more ground than walking and they are a blast to ride! The tour guide knew so much about the area and was never short of fascinating information to supplement our adventure. Best way to visit the Pensacola downtown. If you're looking for something to do out of the mainstream, this is it.My family and I had the best time! Rick was an awesome tour guide. He was funny and very knowledgeable. We learned so much!! We will book future activities with Emerald Coast Tours! 10/10

On Jan 10th, 2022, we had a FANTASTIC tour of downtown Pensacola with Casey: the guys’ a true historian a d teacher! One of our party was a total noob with Segway, the other well-experienced. Casey adapted quickly and efficiently, verifying the experience and focussing on converting our noob into a proficient rider in minutes. The location was easy to find, easy to park, safe for training (and next to the brewery for after-ride festivities). He took us all over the downtown area, highlighting both older (1830s) and recent changes that make Pensacola a wonderful, beautiful, fun, and attractive mini-city. He was full of facts, and easily fielded all the questions. The tour even included time in a great park for a bit of racing time (although the Segways are extremely safe, governed to a manageable speed, and vulnerable only to poor driving.) This was my second time, and I learned still more. We will repeat this experience for any local or visiting friend who likes new experiences or getting a pedestrian eye view of a city in 360*. Segway is for anyone who can walk, stand, and step as high as a curb, and not terrified by the thought of something new. Thanks, Casey, and thanks, Emerald Coast Tours!Segways were awesome to ride, beats walking any day! Plenty of ride time given. Guide (Casey) was great, learned a lot about the history of Pensacola too.
