This is the place to learn to surf. They spend time explaining technique and practicing before you go into the water. My daughter and I had Mosha who was patient with me and encouraged us until we were up in a board. Luka, Mosha, David and everyone else were welcoming and always smiling. Just a great experience in such a beautiful place.

My 19 year old daughter took a private surf lesson with Ki-ke. She learned a lot, got up the first time and had a blast. Started with getting changed and ready and a rash guard. Her dad and i hung out on beach and watched. Pictures were available for purchase afterwards. Highly recommend

Moses and Christian were great. Super friendly, cheerful and knowledgeable. We got my 73-year old mom a private lesson and she had so much fun being in the ocean. She never surfed before and she stood up and rode a wave. The crew was super helpful with our family’s board rental as well. Highly recommend this surf shop for whatever fun on the water you’re seeking. Thanks for making our day in Tamarindo so memorable.

Best experience in Tamarindo so far- surf lessons with Iguana. So much fun! The instructor was great! As a first timer, it will make you want to get out and surf more.

My two teenage daughters had a wonderful experience with Iguana Surf! Kevin was their instructor and he was great. Both girls have surfed, but wanted to learn some new tricks and tips and Kevin met them at their experience level. Also, I made the reservation for the wrong day and they were able to accommodate us at the last minute on the day that I intended. Five stars!

It was my first time surfing ever and they were so warm and welcoming! Gave me the desire to keep practicing when I get home. Thank you all again so much.

Kurt is great! Very informative, safe, and fun. It took a few tries to stand up, but felt like a great accomplishment and a check off the bucket list.

Kevin is a passionate and caring surf instructor. I had never been to a surf lesson and felt pretty nervous about my lack of surfing skills or knowledge. Kevin was clear in his instructions and extremely invested in getting us to stand up on our first wave ever! Sometimes his enthusiasm was a bit overwhelming but it’s necessary for folks who want to get serious about their surf training. 10/10 excelente servicio!

We had such a great experience with iguana surf. My husband and I took a group lesson with Kurt and he was an amazing instructor. I personally felt encouraged and empowered!

Kurt was a great instructor. Scaffolded his teaching back to where your skill level was and then brought you forward. More physically demanding activity than it looks. So much fun!!

My friend and I stayed at Iguana and did the ultimate camper package! Our instructor Luca was amazing and broke it down to make sure we were riding waves our very first day! The camper package is amazing because the hotel is on the beach and the surf shop is right underneath. Breakfast, pictures and videos were also included in the package. Oscar made sure our arrangements for rides were taken care of for excursions and to and from the airport. He was available when we had questions. The location of the hotel is perfect because there’s restaurants, shops and other beaches nearby!

Iguana Surf was amazing! I stayed in the hostel and took lessons with Luca all week - the whole team including Oscar, chris, and Steph were so helpful with everything from other Tamarindo recommendations to surfing pointers. The hostel was comfortable and clean, and the included breakfast was tasty. Highly recommend!

Kevin was an amazing instructor! He took my 8 yr old daughter and husband out while I played photographer. He helped the little one catch several waves and taught her proper form. My husband was a bit more advanced and he showed him some pointers too.

Definitely worth booking! The surf lesson was super fun and our instructor Kurt was awesome. He was great at teaching people who have little to no experience. Highly recommend booking and was a highlight of my visit to Tamarindo

I did it!!! I surfed!! I am pretty good at sports and have decent balance, but so many people had told me how difficult surfing was. Within 10 minutes I was up and surfing. My instructor (Bryan I think?) was awesome. He was patient and explained things very well. Then he took me out there and pushed me into the wave, and then next think I know I was surfing!! I now realize why surfers are so skinny though. It is a lot of work getting out to the break. The ride in is fun though and worth it. I would highly recommend it, but be aware that it is strenuous.

Luis was knowledgeable, patient, and an awesome teacher. He helped build my confidence and gave great pointers. 90 min is def a long time to be out in the water when you're not used to sun of this strength , so def hydrate and bring plenty of sun screen. Due to my awesome lesson, I'm motivated to rent a board and try again on my own.

My best friend & I travelled to Costa Rica in April 2024. I’ve always wanted to surf so surf lessons were definitely on the itinerary for me! She was more hesitant & with some convincing, I got her to agree to try! Kurt was our instructor and was amazing! He made us feel safe, and gave great instructions and insight the entire time we were out there. We had a blast and a great experience thanks to Kurt!

My daughters loved the vibe and instructor’s here, my 8 year old learned to surf on day 1 and then we booked a few more lessons each day and rented the boards as well. Steph was our “go to” and my daughter’s biggest cheerleader, she runs a tight ship and is so friendly and helpful with everything! Carmen has so much patience and my daughter really enjoyed having her and learned so much.

Iguana surf came up on my google search for tours and after much research we booked multiple tours with them. They are SO responsive and helpful. Online and once you arrive in Tamarindo. The girl at the desk was so helpful and patient as we asked way too many questions 😆 . Our surf lesson was amazing. We had Kurt and would definitely recommend him. We booked a semi-private lesson (3 of us) and he was so good given we had different levels of experience in our group. He gave those of us who know how to surf some great tips and was incredible with our 9 year old son. Ask for Kurt if you go! We are also doing the zip line and boat tour later this week.
