Small-Group Greek Traditional Food Tour around Athens with Tastings
Overview
We visit local streets to see, taste and shop for cheese, cured meat, fruits, Greek sweet and spices in markets full of colour, scents and noise. We sample olives, oil and honey from a farmer and barrel wine made onsite of the taverna. We enjoy two meals with meat and seafood, one at a locals meze bar and one in the market, and we drink Greek coffee with a sweet.
On tours starting after 4pm or on Sunday, markets are shut so we visit two local tavernas and eat traditional food with ouzo, raki and local barrel wine. We visit a spice shop and see the Greek area for night life and eat a sweet pie.
Many tastings offered including 2 sit down meals on both tours as you learn about Greek culture.

This was the best way to spend our first day in Athens! Having never been here before it was great to learn from a local some tidbits about their culture, history, and of course, the food and drink. Rachel was a superb host - we felt like we were walking around with the mayor - everyone knew her and she was a total delight. We met at Monastiraki Square with a handful of others from around the world - Belgium, Ethiopia, Spain, and the USA. Our first stop was olives at Roe - omg - yummy! Then it was on to lunch with fantastic plates to share along with Greek coffee and ouzo, the markets (fruits, vegetables, meats, and fish), spices, another stop for some libations, and an afternoon stop at The Grill House. Here we had gyros and pita, and of course wine and more ouzo - courtesy of the restaurant! It was made more special as we met up with the other tour led by Mike. They shared that this last spot was where they had their wedding reception! So special! Rachel was attentive and so knowledgeable. She remembered everyone’s name and checked in with each of us along the way to make sure we were having fun and answer any questions we had. This was such a worthwhile experience and a fantastic way to see parts of the city we might not have explored. We highly recommend this incredible tour!!!We opted to take this food tour on our first full day in Athens and I'm so glad we did. Rachel was so warm and inviting with our large group. We opted to take this food tour on our first full day in Athens and I'm so glad we did. Rachel was so warm and inviting with our large group. She took the time to share insight into the city of Athens, the culture, and the foods they hold dear. You'll feel like a local as Rachel takes you off the tourist streets and brings you to small tucked away spots, local tavernas and more. We ate so much delicious food as well as wines during our tour we barely made it to dinner. Truly the highlight of our 10 day trip! What a fantastic tour. Truly a unique experience going through Athens. Rachel really knows her stuff. We not only got to eat wonderful delicious food and drink delicious drinks, we got a true Athenian showing us around and introducing us to the full culture. I will recommend this to everyone I know.
