I went on the full day bike tour and it was fantastic. The towns you visit are not frequented by tourists so you get an authentic view of rural Japan. Dai is a friendly, patient, and all-around excellent tour guide. He will lead you through the gorgeous mountain region and bring you to historical sites, scenic overlooks, a roadside produce stall, to lunch (awesome by the way), and a few more great stops along the way. The distance travelled is long with a lot of uphill segments but the e-bikes you are given make the trip manageable and accessible to many. It’s like your cheating on the uphill parts. I’m barely in shape and I never felt exhausted because of the assist from the e-bike and the frequent breaks Dai gave us. If you want a truly authentic view of Japan and a unique experience, you must give this a try because it’s a great way to spend a day!Daisuke was a fabulous host, making sure we were safe and happy throughout the bike ride. The lunch he arranged for us was hearty and delicious and the suprise stop for freshly ground coffee by the river was a delightful treat!

We came to Takayama intending it to be a nice break from all the awesome yet busy cities of Tokyo we were (and was going to) visit - and it did not disappoint! I wanted to see Takayama from the perspective of a local (at least, a non-foreigner) and came across Dai's bike tour. The tour was fantastic. We had a slight chance of getting our bike tour cancelled due to imminent rain the day prior, but the weather gods were on our side so we were able to experience this wonderful day. Dai met us at the station, and we also met the rest of our group that day - 1 other couple from Australia whom were an absolute delight. Dai showed us the functions of an e-bike, gave us a rundown of the tour, and after a couple of practice rounds on the bike, we were off! Dai taught us the history of Takayama, and gave us background info as we stopped at each stop, or rode past scenic views and rivers. Riding through the wide lands of Takayama and having the mountains and autumn foliage as our backdrop was amazing, to simply put. The lunch Dai had prepared for us as part of the tour was so delicious. The food at the restaurant was all made with local ingredients, not to mention the owner of the restaurant was so kind as well! After lunch, we made our way back to our starting point but not before we stopped by the clearest river stream I've seen and Dai made us freshly grounded coffee! Dai never failed to make sure at any moment during the tour that we were all comfortable and okay. He is detailed whether it comes to detailing the sites around us, or telling us we're about to go uphill or downhill and what to expect. This tour was definitely one of the highlights of my trip, and Dai, and the other couple that made up the whole bike tour group made it even more special. Definitely a must-do and must-see. Dai, arigato-gozaimasu!A must do if you want to experience the other side of life in Japan. We caught the train from Takayama-Shi to Hida-Hagiwara, where Dai met us. A must do if you want to experience the other side of life in Japan. We caught the train from Takayama-Shi to Hida-Hagiwara, where Dai met us. From there a big bike ride on his outstanding E bikes up up up hill, down hill, through a tunnel( a first for us!) to Maze valley and villages. Dai guided us through his small part of paradise, took us to a few sights but really just let us revel in the side of Japan that few tourists ever get to experience...far from the madding crowd. Delicious picnic lunch on the hill above the village ( rememberer the e bikes? All the hills are removed !) and the grand finale...real coffee on a picnic rug on the banks of the Maze river. Bliss. Thoroughly recommend. After the day we had originally booked had to be cancelled due to rain Dai helped us organise a replacement day including helping us plan our travel arrangements for after the tour to get to Kyoto in the evening. After the day we had originally booked had to be cancelled due to rain Dai helped us organise a replacement day including helping us plan our travel arrangements for after the tour to get to Kyoto in the evening. The tour more than surpassed our expectations and allowed us to see the beautiful countryside of the Hida region while learning about the local history and people. After an introduction to the e-bikes which were very fun to ride, we were quickly off on the road stopping at various points of interest along the way - at each place Dai providing information that helped us delve deeper into Japanese ways of life. We were treated to an excellent traditional Japanese lunch with delicious local fish and ingredients and later enjoyed a coffee freshly made by Dai on the banks of the river for a final energy boost for the ride home. The e-bikes are in great condition and make the ride nice and smooth even when going uphill allowing you to enjoy the views. Dai and the cycle ride are one of our favourite memories from our time in Japan and I’m so glad we were able to rearrange it and would recommend the tour to anyone looking to learn about some of the lesser known aspects of Japanese culture and who want to enjoy the stunning scenery of the region. Many thanks Dai!Dai was an amazing tour guide, showing us the rural regions. The scenery as beautiful, a must see.
