Me and my wife originally booked a group tour (2.5h), but due to lack of travellers we ended up as the only persons joining the tour with our guide Amory. Even before the tour actually started, Amory told us important details about the Valley and its cultural significance for the Diné. We both appreciated this approach very much as one of our biggest concerns was to misbehave on the sacred grounds of the tribe. He kept on providing more insights on the life of his people in a way that did not put us in an uncomfortable situation but encouraged us to ask questions - we learnt a lot for sure! During the tour we had the chance to stop at all the iconic spots every fan of old school Western movies knows - but Amory always explained the original meanings of the places for his people. In addition, he helped us to take extraordinary photos of us (I won't add them here) which are great souvenirs of an unforgettable tour. Overall, we'd highly recommend to take the tour with the Three Sisters which is one of the few local agencies actually operating in the Valley. It was worth every minute and every dollar we spent on the tour. Thanks to Vern for a fantastic peaceful morning in an amazing setting. The entire family of two adults, a teen and a preteen enjoyed it. Vern told us about Navajo life in the Valley, the animal life and geology. Definately go with the 3 sisters.

After a one-hour horseback ride in the morning with Sacred Monument Tours, my son and I had lunch at Gouldings, then returned to the View hotel for a 2 1/2 hour afternoon ride through Monument Valley aboard an open-air van with the Three Sisters Navajo Guided Tours. As it turned out, we were the only passengers. Our Navajo guide, Amory, guided us up and over backcountry trails that only tours (not private cars) are allowed to traverse. Quite bumpy at times (Amory called it a "Navajo massage") but bearable, even enjoyable. In addition to such sites as John Ford point, the Three Sisters and The Mittens, Amory (who grew up in MV herding his family's sheep) showed us some points only a local would know, such as the canyon of echoes, the moccasin arch, a trading post selling beautiful and very affordable handcrafted turquoise jewelry, and a Navajo hogan where a young women demonstrated the technique for weaving Navajo rugs. So glad we booked this tour!We took the 2.5 hour with Amory. He was an excellent guide. He shared stories of his childhood there and took some photos of us. Monument Valley is very beautiful and should not be missed if you visit the Grand Canyon. I highly recommend Three Sisters Navajo Guided Tour.
