Stop At: Arenal Volcano National Park 21007 Costa Rica
The Arenal Volcano National Park is an iconic place to visit!
You will experience what is like to hike around the base of the volcano and encounter all the different landscapes while ascending.
The guide will tell you all about the nature and rainforest that formed after the eruptions, the richness of the soil and all the life and home it carries for many species of flora and fauna.
You will not ascend all the way to the top, it is not allowed, besides it's really strenuous and dangerous but you will get as close from the formed lava trails as possible and hear all the history of the eruptions, you will learn how the volcano works and how is important to our lives, of course always being in company of nature and with the most incredible views; the guide will point out to some interesting animals that you will see along the path that live in the volcano area.
Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes

Our trip to Costa Rica was organized by Anywhere, inc. we told them what we were interested in and they suggested this activity. I’m so happy they did. Our guide Hanzel was top notch. He was knowledgeable, full of energy and funny. The sights themselves were great and although presumably you could likely do them without a guide, the experience is much better with one and a thousand times better with Hanzel. One thing that we were not expecting was the lunch that was included with our tour. Honestly, we were expecting sandwiches what we got was one of the best meals of our lives. Hanzel explained at the beginning of the tour that we would hike the waterfall, then have lunch and then hike the volcano. As we traveled from the waterfall to the lunch spot Hanzel explained that our lunch is being specially prepared not by chefs, but by “mammas that know what they are doing.” We arrive at this off the beaten path property that is beautifully maintained. And yep, there they were the mammas preparing our lunch. The meal was so fresh and delicious we have compared every meal after that to the “mammas lunch” nothing has come close. So yes, book with rainforest explorers because you will get a great guide and have a good experience... but make sure you book a tour that includes the lunch!Hanzel is what made this the best tour! Hanzel is what made this the best tour! We spent 2 days with him doing the Fortuna Water Fall and Volcano hike and then we came back for the Mistic Bridges and River Tour. We saw so many things only because of Hanzel and his dedication to finding what we wanted to see. He was able to please the entire family! Kids ages 14 & 11 loved him! He even had my son chopping down fresh bananas! He spent extra time showing us things we could not have dreamed. We felt like part of the family! Awesome. And I can’t say enough about the lunch! Wonderful! Tours with Rain Forest explorers is a must!! Best days!!We had an incredible day! The waterfalls were breathtaking our guide was very welcoming and Very knowledgeable on the geography. We had an incredible day! The waterfalls were breathtaking our guide was very welcoming and Very knowledgeable on the geography. Watched over our belongings as we enjoyed a swim in the falls He was a fabulous paparazzi! We headed off the beaten path for an authentic lunch home cooked by mom It was absolutely delicious and made you feel part of the family We proceeded to the volcano and hiked a magnificent trail. The sites were incredible, the guide spotted a lot of wildlife and took the time to show and explain everything in detail. We got to see animals such as: howler monkeys, iguana, baby yellow viper, sloth and baby, bat, toucan, parrots, wild turkeys, duck and a red eyed tree frog to end the tour. Fabulous adventure would highly recommend it.Carlos, our enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide, took us and another family to La Fortuna waterfall where we swam in the water -cold but invigorating! Carlos, our enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide, took us and another family to La Fortuna waterfall where we swam in the water -cold but invigorating! We loved this. Carlos was keen for us to see as much wildlife as possible stopping the car to see a sloth walking across the ground - brilliant as you often have to crane your neck looking up into the trees. We also saw toucans and more. Lunch was brilliant. As a family run business, they decided, after feedback from clients, to change the eating choice. So we had home cooked food which was delicious and even with choice of either fish, meat or chicken! We were encouraged to look in the outdoor kitchen and chat to the people making the food - fabulous! After lunch just our family of four, two teenage boys, took the volcano hike while the other family went to the chocolate tour. We learned about the leaf cutter ants, the eruption of Arenal and saw the golden orb spider. Carlos was the best guide we've had in Costa Rica, funny, kind and knowledgeable. He even arranged to pick up my forgetful husband's sunglasses and hat from the waterfall where he had left them earlier! So thank you Carlos, Mr Butterfly Man and guide extraordinaire!
