We took a 3-day, 2-night tour. The landscape was beautiful. The guide, who spoke English, was creative in taking our picture in the Salar d'Uyuni. Hotels were decent. However, we were very disappointed with the guide, who was more of a driver than a guide. He gave almost no explanations and didn't wait until the group was complete before giving information. On the second day, he still didn't know our first names and left us in the car, without noticing our absence (we couldn't get the front seat down to get out of the vehicle). During the 4-5 hours drive back to Uyuni, the guide never spoke to us or asked us a question. He didn't even get out of the vehicle on arrival to help us collect our bags, nor did he say goodbye. We enjoyed every moment of the tour the guide Saul and our driver Leandro were always ready to help and to explain. This makes the difference!

We did the salt flat 3 day tour with salty desert and it really was a brilliant tour however we did encounter some difficulties which should not have occurred considering the price of the tour and how reputable the company is. First off our tour guide was 10/10 from beginning to end (excellent pictures which we will treasure) and thankfully had our safety in mind at all times however this was not the case for the company owner. Our tour had 2 cars (one guide and a separate driver for the other car). Unfortunately the other car was not fit for this tour and encountered multiple difficulties on the second day. It should not have been allowed on the road! Eventually the car gave in on the second day and completely broke down when we were in the middle of the desert at 5.30 pm on our way to the magical hot springs (which we all wanted to attend due to seeing the stars and Milky Way at night- a lot of us did this tour with this company due to this activity). After much time spent on the cars by our tour guide and the other driver we had to sacrifice the magical moment at the hot spring that night. Immediately, Our tour guide stressed to us that it would be unsafe to continue to travel in the dark due to the poor light and mass isolation we would encounter that night. If anything happened we would be alone in the desert in the freezing cold. We agreed but were VERY bummed about the whole situation. We decided to rest and have dinner in a nearby lodge however it was made clear to us the manager/ owner of the company (wallet tight Waldo) disagreed and wanted us to continue the journey even though our safety was at risk- as mentioned above. We went against the managers decision, had some wine and nice dinner that night and had an early 5am start the next day to ensure we could do all activities which were previously missed. Our tour guide and separate driver were so upbeat throughout this whole situation (also spent the night trying to fix the mess of a car they were given). The whole 3 days were really fantastic as we met really great people, saw fantastic landscapes and made unforgettable memories. Its such a shame that one memory will be how desperate and shocking the tour company treat their staff who do all the hard work to make everything run smoothly. A big fat yes to doing the tour but please make sure your car is fit for the isolating desert. It is very important! This was one of my favourite experiences in 3 months travelling Latin America. This was one of my favourite experiences in 3 months travelling Latin America. Miguel was an incredible driver on very difficult roads, I felt safe the entire time. He was also an excellent guide and an amazing photographer. The accommodation is as expected, first night was fine, second was cold and run down (think limited electricity, internet and water) but this is every where on the salt flats regardless of the company. The food was fine, plenty and warm, I recommend the vegetarian option. The company rents sleeping bags and you should definitely use these. The hot springs at sunset were incredible. The salt flats, volcanoes and flamingos and landscapes were just unforgettable and I would recommend this trip to anyone. Ask for Miguel! The trip really comes down to your driver/guide. And Miguel made our 3 days unforgettable. Gracias!
