My husband and I booked this private food tour with Jumana and had a wonderful time! We got to taste a delightful variety of foods and beverages but also learned a lot about the culture and history of Amman as we walked. We felt like locals as Jumana introduced us to friends as we walked and we stopped off to chat over tea or juices before continuing on - a very immersive experience where we truly felt at home. I was celebrating my birthday the week of our visit and I was truly touched that Jumana went out of her way to surprise me with a cake at the end of our tour. It capped off the night. Thank you for a wonderful experience. Would definitely do this tour again and with Jumana. As a chef and food writer deeply immersed in the culinary world, our inclination for food tours during our travels is both a passion and a quest for undiscovered flavors. As a chef and food writer deeply immersed in the culinary world, our inclination for food tours during our travels is both a passion and a quest for undiscovered flavors. Beyond just savoring the delectable offerings, these tours hold the power to weave us into the very fabric of a culture and its heritage. Our recent experience with Ammaan Food Tours, led by the exceptional Jumana, surpassed all expectations in this regard. Jumana artfully guided us through a labyrinth of flavors, intertwining each taste with captivating stories that left us with much more than satiated appetites. The tour, meticulously curated, provided an all-encompassing journey through the essence of Amman's cuisine. From the renowned falafel dish to the iconic Mansaf lamb specialty, and not to be missed, the indulgent Kunafe dessert, every culinary gem was thoughtfully selected. What truly sets this tour apart is Jumana's knack for leading us to owner-run establishments, hidden gems that would have eluded our radar otherwise. Her deep-rooted knowledge of the culinary landscape and her ability to create a seamless connection between the dishes and the stories behind them elevated our experience to unprecedented heights. If you find yourself in Amman and the idea of embarking on this tour flickers across your mind, let me assure you, hesitation should find no foothold. Without a shadow of doubt, this culinary journey is an investment in both gastronomic delight and cultural enrichment. Being with Jumana for her wonderful 3-hour food tour is like meeting someone that you haven't seen for years. There is much laughter and many stories, and of course there's all that excellent food. She leads the group from place to place (three of us joined her on a Friday night) and the tour is a combination of snacking on the street, and sit-down sampling of local dishes. Plunging into the food market she explains what all the local ingredients are used for, and encourages the group to touch, smell, and taste (with the shopkeepers' permission). Traditional Jordanian dishes feature prominently, and she explains each one thoroughly. There is also some ancillary information provided about other things on sale in the souk (and be forewarned gentlemen: when passing through the gold market she explains that a man demonstrates his love by showering his bride with bangles and baubles "If you love her more, you will buy her more..."). Her selection of dishes to try is well-considered, and even though the one continues to eat for the duration of the tour, the walking helps keep things balanced. Short summary: this is an excellent way to get introduced to local food, Jumana knows her stuff, and by the end of it you will leave feeling that you've just had an evening out with an old friend.Come Hungry: Jumana begins her city introduction and local food experience on Rainbow street with Zaatar (great spices baked on a thin bread). From there there’s shopping if you want, great falafel and a wandering down to downtown. A tasting wander thru the colorful local market stalls and tasty lamb Kegtaf, Arayes and Mansaf. This food tour is everything and then some! It's fun, informative, delicious and diverse. You will learn about Jordanian food, culture, history, and how the local people enjoy their lives, through food. We took this tour after being in Amman for several days and still learned so much more from a lady guide who was so fun to be around. She really looked after her guests. My teenaged boys came home raving about their evening and very full of delicious things. If you can eat everything on offer you must have hollow legs, like them. So much good food! Book it early in your stay so that you know all the best places to eat during your trip.
