Overview

Explore the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve with an expert guide on a camping tour. Navigate streams and hike in the jungle to discover wildlife, swim in some of Peru’s most beautiful lagoons and camp in the middle of the Amazon for an authentic experience in a private group.

Pacaya-Samiria spreads over 2, 080, 000 ha (8, 000 sq mi). It is the largest floodable area in the whole Amazon jungle. The easiest species seen on tours are: river dolphin, sloth, red howler monkey, woolly monkey, giant river otter, charapa giant river turtle, giant armadillo, anaconda, alligator, reptiles, frogs and more than 500 species of birds as herons, parrots and owls. Jaguars and capybaras have been seen occasionally throughout the Reserve.

Day 1: Iquitos to Pacaya Samiria National Reserve (Lunch and Dinner)

Stop At: Iquitos Amazon Region, Iquitos Amazon Region, Loreto Region
• 7:30 am Transfer from Iquitos to Nauta city (2 hr).
• Motorboat from Nauta to Santo Domingo (3 hr).
• Entrance permit for the National Reserve.
• Arrival to a village inside the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve.
• Boat excursion to a lagoon.
• Looking for pink dolphins (Inia geoffrensis).
• Exploration hiking.
• Bird watching.
• Accommodation: Overnight in a typical village house.

• Nocturnal explorations in search of tarantulas and other insects.

• Wildlife observation.
• Buying handicrafts (optional).
• Return by motorboat to Nauta (3 hr).
• Transfer from Nauta to Iquitos (2 hr).
• 6:00 pm Arrival to Iquitos.
