Day 2: 1 Day Jungle Trekking
Stop At: Gunung Leuser National Park, Gunung Leuser National Park, North Sumatra, Sumatra
Sumatran Orangutans are critically endangered, with only ~7, 000 left in the wild. We will visit them in their natural home. Start our trek 09.00 AM hike high up into the jungle to observe orangutan up close. Stay and watch them glide through the branches, care for their babies, and feast on fruits. We will have a snack of fruits ourselves along the route, and can enjoy a cool and fun river tubing ride back to town!

Berastagi town is located around 66 kilometers (41 miles) south of Medan and about 1, 300 meters (4300 feet) above sea level. The village rose to significance when Dutch settlers in Sumatra opened a boarding school there in the 1920s.
Located in the Barisan Mountains area, the mean annual temperature of the district is 18 °C. During the day the temperature rises over 25 °C but at night to early morning it could drop to as low as 12 to 16 °C during the rainy season. The weather can be fair and sunny during the day but may become foggy around dusk to night.

The climb to sunrise at the volcano was special and we were completely blown away by Lake Toba and Samosir Island…it is beautiful. We had an amazing tour, everything was well organized. We had a great private driver that took us everywhere safely. He picked us up at the airport and drove us to Bukit Lawang. The accommodations were wonderful and the guides were very kind. Breakfast was included and was lovely. In the jungle we saw a lot of oerangutans and other animals with our funny guides Krisman and Helmi. They cooked great meals for us in the jungle and made sure we had the best time. At lake Toba, Hendra told us everything about the culture of the Batak community. In short, I would totally recommend this tour to everyone!T_Heaton1968

The guides knew a lot about cultures and traditions and were willing to share their knowledge. If they did not know something they reviewed and came back the next day. Be aware that the hike is challenging due to humidity and lots of unsteady ground.kristinep878

We did the 9D/8n tour. We loved our stay at Bukit Lawang and the 2-day jungle tour with our fantastic guides Helmi and Bam Bam. The company has the most lovely cottage to stay in before and after the jungle trip and a lovely small place for dining. Here you will get the Best food we have had on Sumatra. Just finished our 7 day tour with Sumatra Orangutans Treks last week and miss it already! The highlights were walking with the elephants, seeing the orangutans, going down the river on the rapids and learning more about the culture and history of Samosir. Food and accomodation provided were great. We especially enjoyed the villa in the middle of the rice fields, very peaceful indeed. Overall, we had such an amazing time. Helmi, Anto, Dennis and our driver were amazing. Such a good team 💪🏻👏 they went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time, always safe and entertained with games and knowledgeable facts. (Be sure to ask for Dennis if going to Lake Toba, his connection to the island is certainly special) We appreciate all of their hard work and would 💯 ask for them all again by name for future trips.
