7 Days Kilimanjaro Hiking through Lemosho Route
Overview
The route is one of the few where groups may be accompanied on the first day by an armed ranger, as the forests around the Lemosho Glades are inhabited by buffalo, elephant and other wildlife.
The minimum duration for the Lemosho route is 6 days, however, we strongly recommend hiking the route in 7 days. The additional 7th day will give your body more time to acclimatize, reducing the effects of altitude sickness and give you more time to rest before attempting the summit.

As we continue, our direction changes to the South East towards the Lava Tower, called the “Shark’s Tooth” (elev. 4650m/15, 250ft). Shortly after the tower, we come to the second junction which goes to the Arrow Glacier. We now continue down to the Barranco Camp. Day 6: Barafu Camp to Summit to Mweka Camp
Stop At: Mount Kilimanjaro, Kilimanjaro National Park 40000 Tanzania
Very early in the morning (midnight to 2 am), we continue our way to the summit between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers. You head in a northwesterly direction and ascend through heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. This is the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek. At Stella Point, you will stop for a short rest and will be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise you are ever likely to see. Faster hikers may view the sunrise from the summit.
From Stella Point, you may encounter snow all the way on your 1-hour ascent to the summit. Once at Uhuru Peak you have reached the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the continent of Africa!
From the summit we begin our descent by continuing straight down to the Mweka Camp, stopping at Barafu for lunch. You may want gaiters and trekking poles for the loose gravel going down. We arrive at Mweka Camp and enjoy our last evening on the mountain.

Day 7: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate to Hotel
Stop At: Mount Kilimanjaro, Kilimanjaro National Park 40000 Tanzania
After breakfast, we continue the descent down to the Mweka Park Gate to receive your summit certificates. At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy. Gaiters and trekking poles will help. Shorts and t-shirts will probably be plenty to wear (keep rain gear and warmer clothing handy).
Monkey Adventures vehicle will be waiting for you at the Mweka gate to drive you back to your hotel in Moshi (around 60 minutes).

If you ever had any thoughts about tackling Kilimanjaro, I would strongly urge to "go for it" and realize your dreams now. Our trip was organized by Monkey Adventures but the real heroes of the adventure were our head guide, George along with our assistant guide, Paul and all the hard working porters. This mountain is the real deal and I was very appreciative that our well being and safety was well placed in the very capable hands of George. Thanks George and Monkey Adventures! We started the trek 1 Jan 2022 after keeping our booking on hold for several months. We started the trek 1 Jan 2022 after keeping our booking on hold for several months. Monkey Adventures was very understanding due to the rapidly changing travel restrictions at the end of 2021. We said "go" on the 28th December, so they only had 3 days to prepare everything at the end. Thanks to senior guide Brighton and to his team for all the patience and help to get us on the summit. Afterwards we did a 3 day saffari (Manyara, Ngorongoro and Tarangire) with our super competent guide Banana, had some fantastic animal spottings and got some decent pictures even with a limited equipment (70-200mm lens on a full format sensor (24x36). (Photos of lions) I would absolutely recommend Monkey Adventures for friends and family. We did 7 day Lemosho trek with the Monkey Adventures and absolutely loved our experience with them. We did 7 day Lemosho trek with the Monkey Adventures and absolutely loved our experience with them. We were a group of 2 and had 10 people supporting us, that included porters, cook, guides. We were amazed every day how hard our team worked every day to ensure we were comfortable, fed, and supported along the way. Our food was amazing and felt very gourmet. We truly felt like we were treated like royalty from day one. Our guides and the rest of the team checked on us each night to ensure we were feeling good, they kept the pace comfortable for us. On the summit night, they made sure we were safe and went above and beyond to get us to the top. Monkey adventures is a wonderful company, the price is fair, and the treatment is top notch. While they do not have the best looking tents at the camp, they compensate with the heartfelt treatment and we truly felt like we were part of the family. The only thing I would recommend is to bring more cash than you think you need for tips. We ended up having more support staff than anticipated, and while we appreciated all the help and expertise, we were not prepared for the tip requirements. We were still able to make it work, but it would have been helpful to know this ahead of time. We also learned that most of the staff operate with limited and very old gear, including torn backpacks, torn sleeping bags and work out shoes. We happily donated much of our gear at the end of our trek, and wished we had known prior to coming we would have brought more gear for these very deserving and hard working individuals.I felt really good when we reached the top of Africa. It was a real good sensation. A really nice expirience. The hole team did a really good job, eventhough we went really fast from one camp to the other, the team were faster than us. Everything was already ready at the camp. Really good job guys.

What a great adventure and unique experience. Everything was planned from arrival at the airport, lodge, pickup and dropoff back at the lodge. The senior guide (Denis which we strongly recommend) together with the assistant guide (Jumanne) were always available. They knew all details of Kilimanjaro and were able to guide us to the summit. The team of porters did an incredible job. The cook was able to cook marvelous dishes on a small gas fire. In short: strongly recommended!I couldn’t be happier with Monkey Travels - everything was perfectly organised, and they were great at getting us acclimatised for a successful summit! The whole crew were brilliant, the food was fantastic, and the guides were great at keeping us going on the tough summit night!
