A Crash Course through Serbian History
Overview
You are also interested in everyday world politics and have the desire to know how we got here, or where it all went wrong?
Well, you are in the right place for that.
Since the time of Christ, Belgrade was always an important outpost on the border of two civilizations, between the East and the West... Celts, Romans, Byzantines, Ottomans, Austro - Hungarians, Germans, Russians... they all fought and died to capture or liberate the White city (Beo-grad), and left their bones here. Many empires collided here, and world history was shaped on these two mighty rivers, where Belgrade proudly stands today as a Serbian capital. Let us take to the journey through time, where we explain world politics, geography, and geopolitics and more you wanted to know about the Balkans, but you were afraid to ask.

We came to Serbia with the barest understanding of Serbian history- having grow up in the era of Yugoslavia, we knew little else about this amazing part of the world. Spending the day today with Dušan, we learned so much about this beautiful country/city’s history and challenges over the years! He really knew his facts, and even more, was able and willing to share stories that helped bring that history alive. He answered all of our questions, and went over and above with recommendations for restaurants and other places to visit. I can’t say enough about today’s tour! Do yourself a favor and book this tour if you want to better understand Belgrade and Serbian history, in general. Thank you, Dušan!!Marija brought Serbian history to life with this tour. Marija brought Serbian history to life with this tour. The complex history of the region was much more understandable after seeing the sites so integral to the resistance of the Ottomans rule. The tour gave me a better understanding of the regional conflicts within the Balkans and also left me with a respect for the ancient history of Belgrade and it's people. Of course there were also a few more insights on the iconic leader who was synonymous with Yugoslavia, Tito. I enjoyed seeing the apartment of the spy who was the inspiration for Ian Fleming's James Bond character Marija was full of history and humor while being sensitive to what I most enjoyed hearing about. I could not recommend her enough!I was lucky enough to be the only person to book the tour the day afternoon I went on this tour. I was lucky enough to be the only person to book the tour the day afternoon I went on this tour. Since it was basically a private tour, Dusan asked if there was anything in particular I was interested in. I asked if we could just do a tour of the Kalemegdan Fortress instead of the route through the city - Dusan had absolutely no problem with that and was extremely knowedgeable - even about this place I'm not sure was on the 'proper' itinerary. We spent three hours wandering around, through, over and under the fortress while Dusan explained points of specific interest and how the fortress had changed over the centuries, all while boiling down several hundred years of Serbian history, per the tour description. It was pretty remarkable. Aside from being so accomodating, he's also very friendly and his English is excellent. I enjoyed it so much I've booked a second tour which is also a custom route around the part of the city I'm staying in. I can't imagine a better guide for exploring Belgrade.Personable, not stressed for time, wealth of knowledge on history and some interesting facts. Personable, not stressed for time, wealth of knowledge on history and some interesting facts. My guide Dusan spoke English very well, and openes to answering any questions about Serbian life in general. Also he was on-time in meeting me and very good communication before the tour. Out of three different tours i have joined in the last 10 days, his was the most personable and prepared. If you want to understand the complex Serbian history and its culture, this is the best short tour before you join any bus tours in my opinion. This is a great tour for several reasons! This is a great tour for several reasons! First, our guide, Marija, was outstanding. When we met, she gave us a "crash course" of the complex history of Serbia so that we could have a basis to understand the country and the region as we explored the City. Second, we had so many questions about Belgrade and the Country. Marija was happy to answer all our questions to help us have a better understanding of the people, the culture and the country. Third, we visited important and interesting sites on the tour that were both historically important and interesting to us as a visitor discovering another city. I wish we had scheduled the tour earlier in our visit to Belgrade. This company was very responsive, professional and very friendly. We appreciated that they kept in touch after the tour in case we had questions. I would definitely recommend this tour and this company for one of their other tours.Excellent way of seeing the city, great tour guide with lots of information about the city and history
