I am an inline skater with little experience on ice that once saw a video with people skating around iced lakes. That was all, i had to do it. Ice skating in a frozen lake is a unique experience. Me and my girl arranged a winter trip in Sweeden/Stockholm with main objective to participate in one of those day trips in the frozen lakes we read so much about. We found Stockholm Adventures through various recomendations in the net. Their site is easy to use and describes fully the activity. We had to choose between the introduction and the full day on ice. We went with the latest as we thought as inline skaters and with some experience on ice we where a level more than just beginners. We booked the activity from the site. A couple of days before the event we were asked about our ice experience which shows that organizers do not leave things in luck. At the day of the event we gathered to the offices where we selected our boots and saw our equipment. Everything someone needs on the ice was ready prepared and prepacked. Indeed the organizers can provide you with what ever you may miss from clothes (pants/beenies/gloves) etc. The equipment (boots/skates/backpacks/safety tools etc) are really of high quality. Due to the time (middle of Jan) and the warm winter we had to travel about 2.5 hours away from stockholm to the lake that had ice. A total of 5 hours trip subtracts time from skating so if you really want to skate a lot you should prefer February when the winter is stronger and more frozen areas are closer to the city. There were two groups on that day. A bigger one (6 persons) that had the "introduction" and a second one that had the "full day on ice". That second group was only my and my girlfriend so actually the experience was more close to the "private guided tour on ice" than the normal one. That was good for us because we could have our own pace skating yet we kinda lost the team part of that trip that is nice too especially during the half break next to the fire. Anyway suprisingly we got two guides, Sven and Joakem (thanks you guys) both where very experienced skaters that did not only took care of us but also happily tought us many things about the ice the lakes and the skating. Skating over the frozen lake is a great experience (yes i already said that) that i totally recomend even for those who never skated before. Trip started at 8:00 and we took the van to return around 14:30. Around one hour break and 3 hours skating total that were more than enough for us. So some Q&A Should i try it? -YES, Definitely I have never skated -Do this anyway, get the introduction everybody can do this When? -Go February, more daylight, frozen lakes closer to the city, more time skating With Who? - Stockholm Adventures were great Is it Difficult? -Well, with those skates everybody can skate, but then it's a kind o luck of how many people will be in the group and their level vs your level. Is it fun? -See this more as an outdoor athletic activity than a funny one. When you skate you have a feeling of lonelyness and chit-chat might not be easy if the pace is high. Yet there will be fun times and the break allows for some team bonding. Is it dangerous? -Yes and No. You might fall and hit yourself. Lake itself is not a danger as the guides will guide you to the safe places. I do not have equipment - Organizers will give you anything you need. That's all, enjoy the trip.We had so much fun skating on the lake. The best adventure ever :) Highly recommend. And I think I will repeat it next time I will be in Stockholm in winter.

Nordic skating ("långfärdsskridskoåkning") isn't something you can find in too many parts of the world making this a mMUST DO for anyone who can skate at all. The landscape is enchanting, the little fire at lunch roasting hot dogs and chatting over a coffee really build a sense of adventure and friendship. Recommend this above all other things you can do in Stockholm. If you want a fun, authentic, Local experience look no further. We did the ice skating experience and absolutely loved it. If you want a fun, authentic, Local experience look no further. We did the ice skating experience and absolutely loved it. We got picked up at our hotel by the guide. We were whisked away to the shop a few minutes away to get fitted up with gear and then it was off to go skating. We were driven to a huge llake in a beautiful neighborhood. There was a 5 kilometer track of ice that had been cleared of snow to make the going easier. Our guide gave us some handy tips on form as this skating technique is different from the hockey skating I'm used to. Then it was off to the races. I'm pretty sure we were the only tourists around. We saw a lot of different people from single skaters who were obvious experts to families and couples enjoying a day out and even a few pups taking their owners for exercise. Mid-day we went on the banks in a beautiful wooded area with picnic benches and a fire pit. A delicious lunch was hiding in our packs including a tasty veggie sandwich, a thermos with hot water and all of the supplies to make tea, coffee, cocoa or even soup. Then our guide pulled some wood and hot dogs with all of the fixings out of his bag and grilled up fresh dogs for whomever wanted them. Then finished the day with more skating at a different lake where we saw the Crown Princesses house. 5 star service all day. I left my goggle bag in the car and they brought it back to my hotel before I saw it was missing. Highly recommend!!Just brilliant! 10 points. Xmas present for my wife, but VERY happy I joined. What an amazing day! My wife and two teen kids spent the day on the ice with our lovely guide Siggel. After getting kitted out and having a thorough safety briefing we headed out to our 1st of 2 lakes. The 1st lake was very impressive- large (we thought!) scenic and very beautiful. Skating on it was such an amazing experience- serene and peaceful. We then took off our skates and walked for 1km through a wooded area onto our next lake. This lake made the 1st one look like a pond! It was vast! Skating on the pristine ice was unlike any ice skating I’ve done before- just magical! After another 5km of skating we went into the woods where Siggel made a fire and we lunched on hotdogs and marshmallows. My family and I thought that the whole experience was one of the best things we have ever done. I can’t rate the day, or Siggel and the rest of the staff, high enough. Just fantastic!
