We enjoyed a fantastic day on this tour with Denise from the Netherlands. She is like a sponge with new knowledge of everything asked if her. A great ambassador for her company. Well done.

We were three families travelling together on a cruise ship with toddlers and we booked this private tour so we could all have a good time without feeling stressed and rushed on a big bus tour. We paid 3100 EUR for the private day tour which was kindly arranged by the company owner of Norway Excursions Birgir who was always helpful and accommodating on the phone. On the day itself, the van had no water bottles and the car seats were just left on the seats without being installed. We all left the tour with mixed feelings and genuinely disappointed with the money we had spent for the day and how we were treated by our guide, Peter. It all started first thing in the morning when we met him at the cruise port. In comparison to many other guides we have had who would usually greet us with a smile, there were no smiles and no greeting as such, but a rather patronising and condescending attitude to ensure we all have water bottles for the day and gone to the bathroom before the tour. Though we did get some good commentary at the start of the tour, Peter very quickly got frustrated at our group for: 1) not concentrating 100% to him as we were trying to settle down our children (which is quite normal for most families with toddlers) 2) for not knowing how to assemble the carseats that were provided - they were not the easiest to use and not even the driver knew how to install them properly without it being a real hazard! The other tour guides we have had throughout our tour would be helpful in this regard but Peter just stood outside the van, hurried us at every opportunity and rolled his eyes. The worse was lunch, the food offering at the buffet did not look appetising and Birgir did tell us that there may be a cafe option that we could go to if the buffet offering was not something we prefer on the day. Well, our tour guide Peter did not allow us to have lunch at the other cafe and instead was determined that our driver gets his 1 hour break at Trollstigen (where the buffet is!). We all ended up relatively hungry and just resorted to some snacks and wild strawberries that we had got from our previous stop by the benches outside Trollstigen cabin. We then spoke to our driver and he kindly told us that there is another cafe along the road which is more pleasant and that he regularly eats there himself. How inflexible and unaccommodating of our guide for telling us there will be no other cafes along the road for lunch option?! Overall, we were rushed on every stop and constantly being told we need to make good time. It really felt like we were on a school bus with a terrible teacher who lacked soft skills. So much so that we didn’t even feel we had enough time for photos - only 2-5 mins here and there. It takes up almost 5 mins to just get the kids off the bus with the super difficult carseats that we had and I’m sure families with children can all relate to how toddlers can be on the road lol! We were definitely more rushed than the big bus scheduled tours as we had to leave before them at every stop which may be great for our guide but it definitely didn’t make our ONE day in Alesund very pleasant! I appreciate that perhaps with another guide from Norway Excursions things may have been quite different so I would not say not to do a private tour with this company. Every encounter I’ve had with Birgir and Indira on the phone prior to our trip have been very helpful and accommodating. Our driver on the day, Torbjorn, was lovely and was accommodating to our needs but was often overruled by our guide, Peter. It is just hugely unfortunate that our actual day tour was a huge disappointment and that we couldn’t get ourselves to leave any tips as we usually would! The first time we have left zero tips to a private guide in all the years we have travelled! The place is amazing! The tour was very well organized. Our guide was very professional ( it was a young lady from Slovakia), telling us all sort of interesting information and having lots of patience with everybody. Last but not least, the driver was great on a very dangerous and crowded road.

She was from Netherland but doing this over summer in Norway and has lots of knowledge of local places. Because of her extra care, we really loved trip and I would highly recommended over cruise trip.

Silvia, although a new guide from another country was charming, fun andd informative. The driver Torgbjorn (sp.) added a lot to the trip in addition to being a very safe driver.
