The Andong Hahoe village was quite an interesting mixture of the old and the new -- houses where you can go in and see the rooms and other spaces -- and houses where people actually still live, with their cars and other signs of modern life. The folk museum vividly displayed significant events in the Korean upper-to-middle class lifestyle. The mask museum comprehensively showed masks from all over the world, as well as masks and their meanings from different parts of Korea. Julia was a great guide. She knew a lot, spoke English very well, and went out of her way to ensure that we were comfortable. I'd recommend her highly to anyone.Andong is in the middle of Korea so it’s not very easy to get to on your own. Andong is in the middle of Korea so it’s not very easy to get to on your own. We’re so pleased that we found a private tour from Busan, and so very fortunate that Jade was our guide and expert throughout the tour. Jade contacted us immediately after our booking to confirm next-day pick up from our hotel. In the morning we set off and he provided fascinating information about Busan, Andong, and Korea. His passion for Korea and its history was contagious! Upon arrival in Andong, we visited the Folk museum and learned about the changes to Korea over the dynastic eras. We then went to the Soju museum to learn how Andong’s famous soju is made. At the end of the tour we were offered a sample— it is STONG! We then departed to the Folk village, where we stopped for lunch to try the regional dish, Andong chicken (with tons of bangchan). It was delicious and the perfect meal before setting off for our tour of the village itself. Jade guided us through the village, highlighting historical and significant homes, leaders and their history, and taking pictures of us at particularly beautiful spots. Before leaving, we were treated to an amazing live show (beautiful and hilarious- ask Jade to tell you the backstory)! It was more than we could have discovered on our own, and we have fallen more in love with Korea. We can’t wait to come back and do another tour with Jade. Honestly he was the kindest and most knowledgeable person we’ve met. I cannot say enough good things about him or this tour. 100/10 recommend!Excellent day trip with fantastic guide Jade. Very knowlegable and very good and clear English (has lived and worked in New Zealand). It is a long day with 2 hour+ journey from Busan to Andong region, but well worth the visit with huge amount to see and experience. Highly recommended.
