The early start is completely worth it--we beat the crowds and got some really great pictures too. The bikes are high quality, you see some hidden gems that other tourists didn't know about, and it's a beautiful and flat journey. 10/10, would do it again! We absolutely loved our bike tour with Ray. We absolutely loved our bike tour with Ray. A great opportunity to see the beautiful backstreets of Arashiyama as well as all the famous sights. With Ray leading the way and taking some photos for us it was refreshing to be in the moment and learn some history as well as gaining an insight into daily life in Kyoto. Lovely leisurely pace which was perfect for someone like me who hasn't ridden a bike in a long time!I cannot recommend this tour enough! Our guide Ray was so friendly and you could tell he was passionate about what he was showing and telling us. He provided interesting contextual info for each place we visited. I cannot recommend this tour enough! Our guide Ray was so friendly and you could tell he was passionate about what he was showing and telling us. He provided interesting contextual info for each place we visited. He also took pictures of us (on his own, nice camera) throughout the tour and sent them to everyone after the tour. We went to some beautiful shrines and temples that were off the beaten path. They were very calm and peaceful due to not being overrun by tourists, which was just lovely. It felt like a more genuine temple and shrine experience as a result, since you got to experience the serenity of each place. The big popular shrines in Kyoto are great and all, but this was something else - definitely felt more authentic. My tour was in early April 2023 and even in the morning there were some groups at the bamboo forest path, but nothing like the crowds I saw there later in the day (after the tour), so I absolutely recommend doing an early morning tour like this to get the most out of it! The pace of the tour was not difficult at all - my fitness level is pretty low but I had no trouble at all with keeping up or anything like that. All the roads were flat, no hills. We took the early bird Arashiyama tour with Peter and thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it. Peter took us to various shrines and the Daikakuji , Tenryuji temple and graciously took some great pictures for us. We took the early bird Arashiyama tour with Peter and thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it. Peter took us to various shrines and the Daikakuji , Tenryuji temple and graciously took some great pictures for us. He is very knowledgeable about the area, history of Japan and we were able to have a lively conversation throughout the tour. We would highly recommend Kyoto bike tour for a fun filled trip around the streets of Kyoto. PS: They also had good quality bikes for all riders..
