He took us through the night tour and was able to spot out so many critters, frogs, and snakes! He was kind enough to help us take some amazing photography of these animals. I’d highly recommend that you do this night tourWhat an amazing experience! Juan did an amazing job showing so many frogs, bugs, snakes, ants, etc. We saw poison dart frogs, eyelash vipers, toe biters, bullet ants, and an adult pit viper with a French name that I can’t remember the name of! Our guide picked us up on time and drove us from our hotel to the Eco Lodge, which was very close by. When we got there, he handed each of us a flashlight and had us follow him on a gravel pathway which zig-zagged through very lush tropical rain forest terrain. He was very quick to locate many different animals, to include several frog species, snakes, spiders, birds, and insects. We were amazed with his knowledge of everything and learned so much about ones that we've never seen or heard of before. This is not just a "frog tour", although you will see many of them! It was a very in depth educational tour about many animals native to Costa Rica, and we loved learning about it all!Just returned from an impressive, almost 2 hour, evening walk with Gerald (the guide). Just returned from an impressive, almost 2 hour, evening walk with Gerald (the guide). It was a great walk, saw many different species of frogs, but also the banana spider and the fer-de-lance viper. Gerald told a lot about the animals we saw, had some good anekdotes, was really open to all questions and even helped me using my camera in the dark. Enjoyed every minute of this walk and returned with some really good pictures. Can fully recommend this tour to any one! Thanks much, Gerald! We were so happy to discover Gerald was our guide for this tour, as we had met him earlier in the day at a sloth tour and thought he was just great! He’s incredibly knowledgeable about lots of different animals, and even though it was raining the entire time, we saw plenty of really cool frogs, and also some snakes! He’s got a great eye for finding all the animals! I would definitely recommend taking this tour, with Gerald if you can request him! This was the first night tour that my spouse and I did on our trip to Costa Rica and it was great. This was the first night tour that my spouse and I did on our trip to Costa Rica and it was great. Having now done a few more night tours in different locations I can say that this was a great first one. We happened to go during a very rainy period but I completely forgot about it as Juan led us on our tour. What I appreciated the most that the other guides did not do is that Juan started with a basic safety talk which turned out to be super important. Basically don't walk ahead of him and if you are looking up for animals stop walking first. Early in the tour we reached a point where Juan had marked the ground from the night before. Sure enough there was a fer de lance. A venomous pit viper and the most deadly snake in Costa Rica. It was sitting on one side of the path and Juan carefully guided us around it. He then marked the location so he could check on the way back as well. We felt completely safe and saw so many amazing frogs, insects, and sleeping birds on that trip. I always keep in mind Juan's safety advice whenever I'm on another night tour.
