Arouca Suspension Bridge and Paiva Walkway Day Tour from Porto
Overview
With a very convenient pick-up from central Porto you will head straight to Arouca.
In Arouca there is a brief stop where you are invited to taste the local specialities, enjoy the green area just outside the monastery and to get ready for the connection between Arouca and the 516 Arouca.
Around 20 minutes after departing from Arouca we reach the bridge and the Paiva Walkways!
For the next 3 to 4 hours (depending on the pace of the group, weather conditions, picture times, etc.) you will spend your time crossing the bridge and walking along the Paiva river in a wooden walkway.
After this great hike we follow a mountain road for 15 minutes and have lunch in a family owned restaurant in Alvarenga!
The ride back to Porto will last for around 90 minutes and usually the tour ends between 17:30 and 18:30!
Be brave! Join us!

Gonçalo took us on an incredible trip along the Paiva river, including a walk along the suspension bridge (with beautiful views)! The trip was so well organised, we never felt rushed and we were able to go for a dip in the river - so bring your swimwear! Options were adapted for the different ages in our group along the way so that everyone had a good time. The meal was so delicious and we had soo much - best steak we have ever eaten. The staff were friendly and very attentive. Try the pineapple pudding! Gonçalo has also kindly sent us other recommendations for the rest of our trip in Porto which has been so helpful. Our trip to Arouca was definitely the highlight of our visit in Portugal - and undoubtedly, one for the books! We did a last minute booking to simply see the Arouca 516 and the Paiva Walkways but it was more than a sight to see - it was pure challenge (with my fear of heights lol), energy (cardio and leg day) and pure BLISS as we were blessed with great weather and an awesome guide. Miguel was not only knowledgeable but also cool and fun to be with. I could not have asked for a better guide indeed so THUMBS UP! I hope to experience more of Portugal when I come back and I look forward to enjoy it with the awesome Miguel and Detours. The bridge was cool but for me the highlight was the 8km walkway hike after. The river valley was so incredibly beautiful, and it was great to take a break from the city. Also, it is almost all downhill, great after the hike up to the bridge! We were left on our own to climb the stairs up to the bridge, the bridge tour and the the start of the walkway. Our guides met us halfway out and finished the walk with us, which for me was perfect, as it gave plenty of time to quietly walk and enjoy the views. The guides were all very kind, welcoming and attentive. I enjoyed a great conversation with one of them as we walked about local wildlife, parks and other interesting topics. The food provided was great, and they were able to accommodate me as a vegetarian. The vino Verde was delicious! The cost of this tour is outside what I would normally spend on an activity, but for me it was worth it. Highly recommend this experience.Petito was our amazing guide, friendly, jovial, helpful and knowledgeable. He made our experience interesting, fun and joyful. *****Stars
