Art tour of Ravenna and its mosaics (private tour)
Overview
Several populations estabilished on the sandy Adriatic coast. This endless territory of marsh, wetlands, lagoons, swamps, despite being partially unhealthy, turned out to be the perfect shelter for a craddle of civilization. The pines of the coast started to be exploited by romans to build their undefeatable fleet.
Our tour will be as rich in detail and complete as possible, in order to let you dive into this golden age, and let you travel back in time with your mind and your senses.

It is a trip into the early middle age, and accross a huge book of mosaics and little gems.

Incredible the surprise, welcoming us, after this full immersion into the mosaic tiles, precious stones covered with glass paste and bright colors, set in the millenary red clay bricks: an underground crypt, subject to flooding due to the subsidence of the soil (a structure that reminds us to the Basilica Cistern of Istambul).
Duration: 25 minutes

a Unesco Heritagem a grat temple of early Christian age, full of mosaics, and art masterpieces.

Stop At: Mausoleo di Galla Placidia, Via San Vitale, 48121, Ravenna Italy
our last Unesco site of this great tour, a tomb of the sister of the Byzantine Emperor Onorio. The light filters accross the alabaster glasses, the golden atmosphere spread out all around the inner walls and domes. The ellenistic, the greek, and the persian iconographies tell a story dating many thousands years ago, when the Mediterranean Sea was a unique closed and interconnected basin, and a craddle of several wealthy civilizations.

Riccardo was very generous with his time and easily accommodated last minute changes (including crazy traffic!). Highly recommend taking his Ravenna tour and any of the Bologna tours Riccardo offers! A perfect day and discovery of those magnificent monumentsRiccardo KNOWS this city-the art, the architect and its history! Fabulous tour. He went above and beyond to assure we were able to see everything we wanted in the (unfortunate) short time we stayed in Bologna! We will come back and ask him for one of his other tours!
