Good experience chasing the aurora. We saw a nice show of the aurora and had a great evening. Group size could be made smaller specially for photo tours (sometimes by the time you get a chance for the photo the aurora is gone!)

I booked two tours of the Northern Lights and had the guides Hannah and Timothy on both occasions. They were excellent. The first night it was snowing when we arrived at the viewing place and Hannah still took photos of everyone in the snow to try and make it a good experience. When the NL did appear briefly she made sure everyone had a photo. The second night was much better with clear sky and again she was constantly taking photos of everyone even though she nearly got frostbite. Timothy looked after for fire and food. A great team. I’d highly recommend. Thanks again for a great experience. When you get on a bus with 20 plus people you start realising that you just entered a money trap and that you wouldn't get a personalised experience. When you get on a bus with 20 plus people you start realising that you just entered a money trap and that you wouldn't get a personalised experience. Furthermore, the bus didn't have a microphone (the guide didn't check it previously? Lack of professionalism) so the guide gave a very brief explanation about northern lights, that everyone knew already and kept quiet basically the rest of the long, long, long journey as we didn't get to see the lights. Weather is a big factor but your guide it is also a big factor as he is the one choosing the destination...and ours went all wrong (and I can say that as I found out that other tours that moved towards North , on the same night, got to see the lights). It was a photo shooting tour but when I asked about how to set the camera for taking pictures of the northern lights there were short answers and a clear lack of interest...as if he was busy... Last hour and half ride on the bus and you could realise that the guide had just given up...just got our money and gave nothing in return, not even a good story! We did another tour with Safartica and it was equally disappointing. My advise, check a different company.Having arrived in Rovaniemi we were really keen to do a Northern Light Chase. Having arrived in Rovaniemi we were really keen to do a Northern Light Chase. I researched various companies and was very keen to go on a small group tour. Various tour companies spoke about stopping at picturesque locations to view the aurora and it all sounded good. Unfortunately other people clearly felt the same way as these tours were all booed out! I contacted a few other companies but did not book with them as their groups consisted of 40 people. Too big, I thought. I telephoned Safartica and asked them their group size. I was told 20 people. I booked a photo tour. Imagine my surprise when we turned up at the Safartica office to find not 20, but 39 people ready to go on tis tour. Perhaps my question had been misunderstood when I contacted the office. Perhaps they thought I was asking how many people had booked so far. Regardless, it was much more than 20! With so many people of course that meant travelling on a coach. Not a mini van in sight, just 2 big buses outside their office for the various tours taking place. We were directed to bus number 1 however the bus driver would not let us on. He was gruff and rude. We went to bus number 2 and were directed back to bus number 1. We located our tour guide who got us on to bus number 1. Pretty disappointing so far. Our tour guide outlined the evenings activities which included driving south due to cloud cover. Due to the size of the bus we were very limited in where we could stop. Not a lake or a mountain in sight, just the side of the road with power poles and power lines. Definitely not what I had hoped for or expected. The tour guide took photos of the various groups under the weak aurora which were sent to us. Obviously the tour company have no control over the aurora and we did manage to find it. It looked grey to the naked eye but showed up as either a light green or a deeper green on camera. Which brings me to the photos. To me, a photo tour means taking photos. This is difficult when the bus has all of it's lights on throwing light pollution everywhere. The whole point of a light chase is to view the aurora away from light pollution. In all, we spent 4 hours and nearly 400 Euro for our group of 4 to go on this tour and it was not what I expected at all. The group was too big, the bus was too big and stops on the side of the road was not what I expected. I found it to be a huge waste of my time and my money. Very disappointing. We went Aurora hunting with Damaris. She was wonderful and went above and beyond to create a wonderful experience. She told us fun facts about the places. 100% consigliati.
