As a visitor to the USA over the years it’s been good to visit a few ships at various locations. This has been on the list for a while and the wait was worth it. Myself and my wife arrived as it opened. There were no queues, we purchased tickets on the deck and enjoyed the tour. Absolutely worth it. Love seeing these ships so well maintained and keeping history alive and interesting.Great half a day. If you like history etc can't go wrong here. Parking next to the ship, all the volunteers are pationate, willing to chat. Some have even served on the old girl.

The tour is self-guided, following arrows on the deck and moving from one information board to the next. The tour takes you around most of the upper and lower decks, past the gun turrets and other installations, and into some internal areas of the ship such as the galley and some of the officers’ quarters. The tour is interesting and easy to follow, and we took about 2 hours for the tour. We were disappointed that the tour didn’t include the engine rooms nor any of the armoury areas. The docents along the way were friendly and welcoming and informative. The attraction is still in its infancy and I am sure they will expand the range of the ship covered byt eh tour, in the years to come. As it stands, its worth seeing but isn’t the day out that we’d thought. Perhaps we were spoiled by the USS Midway in San Diego. Parking is cheap and right out the front. We were looking forward to going to Vicky’s Dogs for lunch but it was closed that day for a ‘special event’, not that there was anyone around (I think they just had staff not turn up….).
