Stop At: Zhushikou, Dongcheng, Beijing, China, 100051
Start the morning right by meeting your local foodie guide at an easy-to-find yet off the beaten path location. Then stroll through a residential hutong neighborhood, passing temples and markets along the way, while stopping to enjoy authentic breakfast dishes and drinks where locals eat. There are no tourists here, just family-run eateries and street stalls where everything is made to order like it has for generations. While visiting 4-5 sit-down eateries, street stalls and markets, you will get to try over 10 breakfast dishes and drinks that Beijing locals love. You'll learn how each dish is made as they are prepared fresh for us to enjoy. Give Beijing's famous yogurt a try, watch savory pancakes prepared in a way you haven't seen before, visit a local market to see what's in season, and feast on a classic Beijing breakfast spread...plus a lot more!

Kelly was such a friendly and knowledgeable guide! My husband and I were the only ones on the tour so it was pretty much a private tour for us! We were joined by one of their new employees shadowing Kelly and she was super kind and friendly too! We ate so much food (8 different places total!) and it was delicious!! My favorite is definitely the meat pancake...flaky and savory, so good! My husband enjoyed the plate of giblets, which had tripe, liver, stomach, etc. it was so flavorful and delicious! We even tried fermented mung bean soup, a local breakfast item! Not my favorite, but my husband didn’t mind it and it is worth a try to experience different cultures! Highly recommended! Our guide was Emily and she did a fantastic jobs to introduce us the various local foods. She friendly and sociable. We had a wonderful morning tour around Hutong.

The hutong walking food tour was a great way not only to explore the hutongs themselves but to immerse yourself in Chinese culture. We learned about the different kinds of traditional foods all the way from sweet to savory as well as tons of trivia and what daily life is like there from our tour guide, Jim. Jim was an excellent tour guide, he was very informative, courteous, accommodating, and friendly. We would converse about various topics on Chinese life and culture, most specifically how it was in Beijing, and he would always offer help without us even asking. Our tour guide also had good story telling capabilities, as with every word he spoke about the history and way of living in the places we walked to, we would always be so intrigued and interested in whatever he had to say. After our tour, Jim even helped us on how to get around to find other interesting places to tour around, showing that he truly knew the lay of the land and the interesting parts of the entire city. Overall, we truly enjoyed the time we spent on the tour as well as the food we ate, it will truly be a memory that we will treasure.
