Jimmy was our guide for a morning/early afternoon hutong tour. He was marvelous— accommodating, interesting and knowledgeable. Great thing to do at the start of your trip. In addition to seeing lots of wonderful things in the hutong area, we also learned how to navigate the subway, how to order food and how the local supermarket works. We got so many great photos and made wonderful memories. Would highly recommend!Anson met me and my husband at our hotel and we walked to Dongsi. Anson met me and my husband at our hotel and we walked to Dongsi. He is really knowledgeable about the food and the history of the Hutong area. We experienced all kind of food in that stretch of Beijing and Anson explained the origins, traditions and how to eat them. It was a great night out for us and we returned to some of the places he showed us in the following days. Needless to say that the food was amazing and at the end of the evening we were full. He also indulged me in writing down some of the dishes I liked most so I was able to order them again when I was on my own. Definitely will call him again if we return to Bejing. Thanks Anson!Becky provided me with an excellent introduction to the food and life of Beijing. Becky provided me with an excellent introduction to the food and life of Beijing. She picked me up at my hotel and we walked to several establishments of different varieties-all the way from sidewalk stands to sit down with service restaurants. I learned so much about the food from various areas of China and about China. She gladly answered my questions about Chinese history and her life in Beijing. I tried things I wouldn't have even known existed without Becky and this tour. I can't recommend this tour highly enough.. If I can offer one piece of advice for your trip it would be to book a private food tour with Lucy. As a first time visitor to Beijing, I visited all the main attractions; I wanted to experience the culture, but I didn’t know anyone. Lucy took me to several food stops and beyond tasting the different foods, she talked about the history and culture behind the food, which was so interesting. We definitely went to some places off the beaten path and walking through the hutong and learning about the history was such a highlight of my trip. I learned so much from Lucy about Chinese customs, culture, history...if you’re a foodie, you will definitely enjoy this tour, but it is so much more than that. I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Beijing. It was the highlight of my visit by far.Our local friend took us for a stroll in the Beijing hutongs, where we ate a lot of local snacks and experienced the old Beijing charm. Our local friend took us for a stroll in the Beijing hutongs, where we ate a lot of local snacks and experienced the old Beijing charm. It was really interesting! Unfortunately, our time there was too short. If only we could have stayed a little longer and had more fun. My friend in Beijing is practicing her English and would like to make more foreign friends. So if any foreign friends visit Beijing, you can look for her!We have been to China a number of times, but have not have many opportunities to try street foods. We have been to China a number of times, but have not have many opportunities to try street foods. It's a little hard if you're unfamiliar with the area to know which street foods to try and from where. Becky helped us a lot with that, in addition to providing any historical or cultural background that goes with the food. We were able to be as adventurous as we wanted, and felt encouraged to go outside our comfort zone. Would definitely recommend it!
