Belfast’s political taxi tour
Overview
The North of Ireland has become famous for the murals painted in almost every area of the country . These pictures of IRA ,UVF murals are often flashed around the world on news bulletins or used as a backdrop when interviewing people. They often depict the history and political views of both traditions and are a way of marking territory. These wall paintings often look intimidating but they have become as much of a tourist attraction as many of the regular attractions within Belfast and beyond.

Our driver Tony (Belfast Tours) was truly amazing. We cannot speak highly enough about him. We were a party of 4 from Glasgow, who have a good idea about the Catholic /Protestant issues that it can cause. However, Tony took us by taxi, then got us out the taxi at different areas and told us the full history, which we weren’t fully aware of. You can start to understand why the violence, once it started, would be difficult to stop. That’s why we are of the view that the Good Friday Agreement has to be honoured before the next generation of young men and woman are potentially put through this. Peace has to be the way forward for all parties. Tony, if you get to read this, thank you so much for today and the story you ended the tour with. We will never forget it!!Our driver was fantastic. He gave us a real insight into 'the Troubles', what led up to them and how they have changed the politics in NI. I would advise all visitors to the six counties to take this experience and learn a little. Shop around too. Our drive was just £50 for two people, other...
Our driver was fantastic. He gave us a real insight into 'the Troubles', what led up to them and how they have changed the politics in NI. I would advise all visitors to the six counties to take this experience and learn a little. Shop around too. Our drive was just £50 for two people, others were double and more for the same time frame. We found it from a flyer in our hotel, don't be fooled by internet booking prices. The tour was great and extremely interesting. Our guide Sean Mc was a wealth of knowledge and gave us a whole new perspective of the history of Belfast. Would recommend to anyone visiting.

I vaguely recall hearing about the troubles of Belfast in the 1970s and 1980s. Bits and pieces of the conflict heard through American News. The Black Taxi Tour provides an entirely new perspective covering both sides of the struggle. Of course this experience is made impactful by the depth of knowledge imparted by our fantastic driver Brendan. So much history that defines Belfast and Ireland as a whole and lays an outlook for the future. This tour is well worth the money and it was a pleasure to spend time with Brendan. Note, we should have fed our teenager before the excursion. While she was ok for the experience, I think she would have enjoyed it even more. The two hours was definitely at her limit. This experience is great for anyone interested in history or even current political events. Top shelf.I grew up here experiencing the end of the Troubles but didn't ask many questions at the time, or learn about the history of the conflict in school. I grew up here experiencing the end of the Troubles but didn't ask many questions at the time, or learn about the history of the conflict in school. I took the opportunity of a friend visiting for the day to take a Black Taxi Tour and am so happy I did. Patrick was our guide and left us far more educated and informed by the end of the tour. Interesting to look at and learn about the murals with international political statements too. Definitely recommend doing this when you're in Belfast! A real eye opener.
