Whilst staying with our sons family in Bengaluru he arranged for us to go on the tuk tuk tour of central Bengaluru. We were met outside a metro station by Tarim, who seemed too young to know much about the city, but we were so wrong, he was extremely knowledgable and able to entertain us with all the facts about the various places we visited. Our ages ranged from 75 down to 10 but he held everyone’s attention. We will always remember the tour for an amusing incident. We arrived at a Hindu temple quite early and the place where you left your shoes was not yet open. Train said it would be ok to leave our shoes just by the door as the lady who looked after them would soon arrive and take them in. When we ended our trip round the temple we looked for our shoes only to find that 4 pairs were missing, including Tariqs. After a short time he arranged for the tuk Tuks to come and fetch us and take us to a shoe shop. We then were asked to choose some new shoes and his tour company would cover the cost. We were take to a flower market which was fantastic, and Tarim gave our two grandchildren 100 rupees each to see who could strike the best deal for some flowers. Then we went to a Dosa restaurant down a little back alley. Little bit worrying, but it was great and the dosas were lovely. We ended with a walk through Cubbon Park which was incredible if just for the banyan trees. Overall great trip, very enjoyable and highly recommended. The ‘Bengaluru by tuk tuk’ tour by Unventured was a revelation, surprisingly, because I have lived in the city for many-many years now. The ‘Bengaluru by tuk tuk’ tour by Unventured was a revelation, surprisingly, because I have lived in the city for many-many years now. Got to know of the ‘significant-spots’ in the city in a completely different light through the unhurried pace and fascinating stories and anecdotes by our amazing tour guide Tej about the history, culture, architecture, rituals and mythology of the places, monuments and the city, supported by hard facts and scientific basis. From Tipu’s summer palace and stories of his innovations in battles to Kote Venkateshwara temple and how it resembles a human figure to the bustling city market with its aromas of spices, and colors and fragrances of flowers to jewelery-making and silk saaris and dyeing units to Vidhana Soudha to kali temple in a cemetery… it was a complete feast for the senses and the mind. ‘And what about the body?’ you ask. Well, there was a feast (almost)- a sumptuous meal, waiting for us at Bheema’s to end the tour! :) A fun tour with great insights into the history and culture of the city of Bengaluru. Highly recommended! We were in Bangalore to visit family and it was our local (expat) family that gave us this tour as a treat. We were a party of 4 and we were met by 2 guides, Tej and Narendra. We were in Bangalore to visit family and it was our local (expat) family that gave us this tour as a treat. We were a party of 4 and we were met by 2 guides, Tej and Narendra. Tej grew up in the city and knows the place really well, not just it’s touristic credentials, but more impressively, she knows a great deal about the history that shaped the city to a present day vibrant meeting point for 13 million people. There was a bit of everything. We toured the streets in tuk tuk (or "autos" as we were told they are called here), fantastic way to experience the local traffic (if you don’t like chaotic traffic maybe you picked the wrong city), and started with a visit to Tippoo Sultan’s summer palace - visiting a place like this can sometimes be simplified down to some key nuggets about life at the time when the palace was first built and atrocities committed by along the way. But Tej uses the location to give an engaging description of the history of civilisation in this region, trading relations, colonialism, including episodes with the Portuguese, the French and the British (who are said to have a few relics from the time at the Victoria and Albert museum “for safe keeping”). And as if this wasn’t enough, we are then drawn by the sound of children singing in a neighbouring school; Tej interrupts the flow to put explain this school was no common school; we learnt how muppet leaders implanted by the East India Company worked with the colonisers to begin teaching English to people in the region - this school was nothing less than the first ever school to teach english in Bangalore, with the importance this had in creating the conditions that led to the city becoming the outsourcing capital of the world. This style of story telling was present throughout the entire trip - both at more obvious sites such as the Kote Venkataramana Swamy Temple (one of the oldest shrines in Bangalore), the buzzing and vibrant flower market, street markets, silk and gold cottage industries, a couple of delicious meals along the way, and a visit to a temple in a cemetery - with a striking description of life as a lower class “untouchable”, their habits and struggles. For a highly engaging experience of the startup city, experiencing a true assault to the senses, while getting critical insight into the Bangalore and the India of today we highly recommend the Unventured team.Guru was a wonderful tour guide!! Guru was a wonderful tour guide!! He gave us a historical overview that provided a good background, which he later wove into several sights we visited. We saw so much of Bangalore in just one day. The flower market and fruit and vegetable markets were incredible sensory experiences. The dosa place prepared a yummy special dosa, perfect when followed by sweet, milky coffee. Guru was knowledgable, patient, and a charming guide.I have been to Bangalore several times for business, but have not had much time to really see the city, so signed up for the Unventured Tuk Tuk tour. I have been to Bangalore several times for business, but have not had much time to really see the city, so signed up for the Unventured Tuk Tuk tour. It was absolutely the best way to see and really understand Bangalore. My guide, Tej, asked what I would be interested in seeing. The tour included some historical background of the city - visiting Titsu's Palace - visited a temple then headed to the flower market and had wonderful dosa brunch at a local spot tucked away in one of the markets. I loved the way Tej wove historical information, cultural and spiritual framework, and discussion of how people really live in Bangalore. I was by myself, but this would be a great thing for families or really anyone who wants to understand the "true Bangalore". Wonderful!
