This is a typical itinerary for this product
Stop At: Fortaleza del Cerro, Jose Batlle y Ordonez, s/n, Montevideo 12802 Uruguay
Now it's time for a short coastal drive towards the highest point of the city, at roughly 300ft. Here we'll appreciate 360 degree breathtaking views of Montevideo and see the 210 years old colonial fortress from outside.
Duration: 40 minutes
Stop At: Ciudad Vieja, Pza. Independencia 832 Piso 1, Montevideo Uruguay
Here you'll discover the Old City by foot, where it all started. We'll see unique 200+ years old buildings and visit the most beautiful squares of the city, such as Zabala, Constitution and Independence Square with its huge monument and majestic Solis theatre and Salvo Palace surrounding it, where we'll also pass under the old Gateway of the Citadel.
We'll also see the Metropolitan Cathedral, National Bank building and many other attractions that are located within the district such as the Cabildo (old city council) and find some remnants of the wall from when Montevideo was fortified.
Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes
Stop At: Parque del Prado, Avenida Delmira Agustini, Montevideo Uruguay
Not too far from Cerro, we'll visit this beautiful and old green residential neighbourhood, where upper class families used to live during last century. As a proof of that, there are still some of the manor houses. Then we will see some interesting sculptures at Prado park, the greenest area of the city.
If you're interested in art, we can also pay a visit to Blanes museum, home to the most impressive paintings of the greatest Uruguayan artists.
Duration: 1 hour
Stop At: Palacio Legislativo, Av. de las Leyes s/n, Montevideo 11800 Uruguay
Now it's time to see the Parliament House, a massive neoclassical building made of marble dating from almost 100 years old. You'll be impressed by its huge columns. This is where Uruguayan laws are made.
Duration: 30 minutes
Stop At: Mercado del Puerto, Perez Castellano, Esquina Com Rambla 25 de Agosto de 1825, Montevideo Uruguay
Now it's time for a tasty lunch. You'll have many options to choose from, such as a typical Uruguayan "asado" (bbq) at Mercado del Puerto, a 150 years old market. If you want to have another thing, you'll also have plenty of options, including pasta, empanadas, or if want, you can try our unofficial national dish, called Chivito.
Lunch is at your own cost. Stopping for lunch is optional, we can skip it if you prefer.
Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes

Javier Jablonka is a native Uruguayan with Polish ancestry (hence the last name) who spent four university years in Australia (Macquarie U) and decided on a side career in guiding so he could continue to hone his already high-level English speaking skills. Giving him an edge is that he's a keen traveler, having already visited some 40+ countries (and he's only 33 years old!), so he's able to relate to the experiences and background culture of his varied clients. He's used to doing private touring and prefers to leave the cruise ship crowd to his friends-competitors. He also prefers to do only Montevideo, again leaving Colonia, Punta del Este, etc. to others in the profession. He drives you in his own VW 6 seater Tiguan but he also offers his dad's BMW (see his tour title above - ha ha ha!) if that's the client's preference. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed Javier's company and informal chat, aside from the formal guide talk. Quite evidently from his discourse, he is very knowledgeable about Montevideo and Uruguay's history. And since he's travelled to every South American country, he is able to discourse on the relationships of Uruguay with these nations as well. He has crafted a very high-quality tour of the capital city, which includes a two-hour walking tour of the old town (Ciudad Vieja), a visit to the Cerro, a drive to the former rich town of Prado with the old mansions (quintas), some of which had been preserved, and the very expansive Prado Park, with the massive statues (like the evocative Los Ultimos Charruas). Also included in Javier's version of Montevideo highlights was a drive (and some stops) along the 23 km Rambla riverwalk. Since it was a weekend, we missed going inside the Parliament building but at least Javier showed us pictures of what we would have seen inside. We drove through a few other neighborhoods, which hinted at the glory years of Montevideo when it sought to rival Buenos Aires as the 'capital of South America'. Javier is very articulate, very friendly, quick to adjust to the situation, very quick to strike a connection with his guests, and feeds off their energy and enthusiasm. He sets a very high standard for Uruguay private touring!Travelled solo to Montevideo and messaged Javier some of my interests before I arrived. Javier brings both incredible knowledge and remarkable enthusiasm to his tour. Since he only does tours on an occasional basis, each tour is special to him. He cuts no corners and really is keen for those he guides to have a better appreciation of life in Uruguay. He also went out of his way to help with logistics not connected to the tour itself such as where to book a hotel. We recommend him without any equivocation.Javier is a gem. His English is flawless. Javier is a gem. His English is flawless. His knowledge is astounding. We had limited time but he showed us everything to see in Montevideo and told us all about the history and culture. He took us to little known areas and to the famous old city sites as well. He showed us sites that revealed how much he loved his city and why and we shared that appreciation. We especially enjoyed the long Ramblas blvd and the beaches. What a fascinating city with so much depth. We truly enjoyed it and hope that we meet again. We highly recommend that you book with Javier. You will not regret it Great value! We wish we had had more time. But there is next time too!The tour was very interesting. This private tour was the highlight of my Uruguay adventure during the Libertadores Final's Day! Javier is an excellent guide and a friendly, knowledgeable, and great guy! He picked us up at my hotel at 09:00 AM in his very good and comfortable vehicle. We walked around Ciudad Vieja (Old City) while he explained buildings and the history of the country. After, we visited other very beautiful areas of the city. I really recommend this tour to anyone! Thanks for everything, Javier!
