We spent a totally enjoyable 4 hours with Marcos as our knowledgeable and personable guide through the beautiful Curicancha Reserve on Feb. 22, 2020. We were a mixed group of teens and 62 year olds and he totally held our interest! His passion for the vast number of birds was remarkable and he REALY knew his stuff! He assisted us in getting some great pictures! We actually did two/three tours with Pasion Costa Rica. We actually did two/three tours with Pasion Costa Rica. I did a private tour in the morning by myself, then our family of five did the combination skywalk, snack and night walk. I'll talk about all three. I wanted one tour without my family to look for and photograph insects. including some specific families, as well as birds, free to wander and futz with lenses or whatever. Pasion has several outstanding natural historians, I don't think any are specifically entomologists, but the depth of knowledge is great. They knew what was and wasn't there, what the host plants were and where to find them. They chose Curi Cancha reserve both for birds and the thorn bugs, and we had truly a lifetime morning in the cloud forest In the afternoon The whole family was guided by Marcos for the skywalk trail with 5/6 canopy bridges. Marcos was a great interpreter and host, could explain engagingly to both adults and children, took to snack which was really dinner at a wonderful home-style restaurant. The night walk was a thrill, bats, sloth, more insects and spiders, some sleeping beauties (long-tailed mannikin). Really a great way to get the most of our time in Monteverde, and they will work with you to make the tour what you wantIf I could give them 6 stars I would. Evelyn and Susu were wonderful in setting up our afternoon hike at Curi Cancha and night hike and we were so lucky to have Marcos the whole time seriously what a cool guy!! Evelyn and Susu were wonderful in setting up our afternoon hike at Curi Cancha and night hike and we were so lucky to have Marcos the whole time seriously what a cool guy!! He was so knowledgeable about the forest and surrounding areas and so patient with our boys ages 7 and 10. We got to see 3 Sloths, aviper, owls hummingbirds wild turkeys and a tarantula!!! We will definitely make another trip out and set up more tours with Pasion. PURA VIDA!!Just two of us with our tour guide Victor. He’s a great guide, really tranquil and friendly. Just two of us with our tour guide Victor. He’s a great guide, really tranquil and friendly. He really took his time and was patient if we wanted to linger over certain animals or scenery. We went to the Curi-Cancha reserve. The high point was the hummingbird area. Hundreds of hummingbirds, tiny, buzzing past our heads. Heart beats 600 times per minute. Top tip from victor-use the “slow-mo” video setting on your phone to catch the wings!! We also saw a pack of coatis, and many birds. We saw yellow, red and blue wild coffee! Victor had a set of tripod-held binoculars through which we were able to see the animals (that stayed still long enough!) in great detail! The animals we saw included- Motmot bird, a pair of sleeping mottled owls, Hummingbirds (Violet sabre winged, Coppery headed emerald, Magenta throated, Green violet ear or lesser violet ear, Green crowned brilliant, Green helmet) The plants and flowers we saw included Mucuna pods, Lepanthis Monteverdensis orchid, Trees from poinsettia family, Strangler figs, Lianas, Shrimp flower, Wild avocado, Toilet paper plant, Ginger plant, Mahogany tree and Cecropia trees. We also went INSIDE a strangler fig tree which Victor pointed out (picture below!). Victor was a great guide and we really enjoyed this trip! This tour was amazing! The guide was super knowledgeable and had answers for all our questions. He was well versed in history, ecology, wildlife, and sustainability. He also knew where many bird nests were, so we saw so many great birds. I would definitely recommend this tour!
