This famous Buddhist temple, dating from the 8th and 9th centuries, is located in central Java. It was built in three tiers: a pyramidal base with five concentric square terraces, the trunk of a cone with three circular platforms and, at the top, a monumental stupa. The walls and balustrades are decorated with fine low reliefs, covering a total surface area of 2, 500 m2. Around the circular platforms are 72 openwork stupas, each containing a statue of the Buddha. The monument was restored with UNESCO's help in the 1970s. Highlighting the stone reliefs and the many faces of Buddha.

To take back Shinta, Rama was accepted by Hanoman and the monkey forces built a bridge to the kingdom of Alengka to free Shinta. There was a big battle between the kingdoms of Alengka and Ayodya. Ape forces fight the giants who defend the kingdom of Alengka. Ayodya in the contest to get Shinta.

We were with Widi and we had an amazing day! He was in a happy mood all day long, laughing with us, telling us stories, explaining us the history facts about each place. He bought us some snake fruits to taste, brought us in a coffee to try luwak coffee. He knows so many things about the history and culture. If one day we want to do Borobudur again, hoping it would be fully open, we would want to do it with Widi and nobody else. We had a fantastic time in Yogyakarta and surroundings with Widi, our excellent, well-organised, friendly, witty and very knowledgeable guide !! We were very lucky to enjoy his company for several tours including majestic Borobudur, serene Candi Mendut and Pawon, stunning Prambanan (both Sunset tour and Ramayana ballet), beautiful Plaosan, atmospheric Selogriyo temple amidst mesmerising rice terraces, and amazing rocky coast and Ngobaran beach with Hindu temple in the South!!! We also leant so much about the local cuisine, plants, fruit, rice and coffee production, went to the markets to explore spices and teas, enjoyed live shadow theatre (wayang kulit) plus gamelan music in the brilliant Sonobudoyo museum, and admired the rich arts and crafts culture in various batik and puppet making workshops, and even made our own pottery ! The tours were tailored to personal interest, always exciting and great fun!!! Communication was easy, and we were given a clear itinerary for each day with informative summaries of the key facts and stories before each visit!!
