This was a genuine 'experience' not just a tour. 'MT' proved himself to be a knowledgeable, articulate, educated and amusing guide. He was born in one of the townships my partner and I visited through his company 'Authentic African Experiences', so he was able to show us many sides of life there now and how it was in the recent past too. We met families and friends throughout the 6+ hr day, and had a chance to speak with and see for ourselves something of life there. We also visited some social enterprises and a cool 'club' and then had a lovely lunch at one of the restaurants that have grown and developed in parts of the area. Meeting the community leader and visiting his home and family was a privilege and very humbling. Hearing about how AAE helped the community during the pandemic and hearing about the company's vision just added to the whole feeling that this is the way to see this aspect of life in SA and we would definitely recommend booking this experience with them.Theo was an awesome tour guide who gave us the best experience. We spent two wonderful days together with Peter and Theo. They guided and informed us as we drove the magnificent coastline. We stopped along the way to take pics and delight in the beauty. It was magic. The guys we fun informed generous and gracious. At one point Theo managed payment of some souvenirs I wanted to buy ( heads up take cash as credit cards often difficult to use as local traders don’t always have access) The township tour is a must for those interested in the history of apartheid and it’s a safe and enlightening experience to walk the streets alongside Theo who grew up in the township and who knows many of the locals. My teenagers thought the guys were super cool and had so much respect for them and the way they love and know their county. It was a pleasure to spend time together and I highly recommend them. They are timely reliable and will respect your wishes. Give them a shot!!
