Just got off our cruise to Puerta Maya on the Oasis of the Seas and as avid cruisers this was the best excursion we’ve ever done! You get off your ship as soon as it docks and meet them outside of the port where they will be waiting with a sign with your name on it. We met our guide Luis as well as Johana and Sabes who would help us with snacks and pictures all day. In our case, we hopped in a taxi with our guide Luis that we rode in all day because we were their only tour. That means it was a private tour which we were not expecting! The drive to Chacchoben was about 45 minutes from the port and on the way Luis told us some things about Mexico’s geography and what we were seeing. We were at the Chacchoben ruins for about an hour and Luis was awesome. He is actually of Mayan descent so he was so full of knowledge and excited to tell us all about the ruins and Mayan culture. His dad was actually on the team that helped refurbish them in the 70s! He also made it clear that during an equinox is the best time to go because the sun lines up with the ruins and you get to appreciate them to their full potential! (Definitely wear bug spray!) We then hit the road over to Bacalar which was just over an hour drive. We arrived at a dock and got on a pontoon boat which is the BEST way to see the lagoon (which other similar tours on trip advisor do not do in combination with the ruins). On the boat Johana brought fresh fruit and chips and their was a cooler of beers, sodas, water, and tequila!! Jabes made us a really tasty drink with tequila and grapefruit Fresca ;) We cruised the lagoon while they blasted music and got to go out for a swim at two different stops. We had so much fun! (Definitely wear sunscreen!) Finished up just a drive down the road at El Taco Loco. I ordered fish and my boyfriend ordered shrimp and we shared. They have like 7 different ways to make each kind of taco but we aren’t picky so we told our waitress to make them however she recommended! It worked out cause they were DELICIOUS! We hopped back in the car when we were done and headed back to the port. Couldn’t tell you how long the drive was cause we definitely slept the whole way back! I spent hours looking for a Chacchoben Ruins and Bacalar Lagoon tour on Trip Advisor. After chatting with Sara on Trip Advisor, another reviewer of the same tour we did (find her review below), my expectations were very high and they were certainly exceeded! Here’s some pictures that Johana helped take all day. I have to emphasize how kind and gracious everyone from eco experiences was. If you book directly through the Eco Experience website you get a really great deal! If your dates aren’t showing up definitely give them a call they were so helpful on the phone before booking as well. They were super easy to chat with through WhatsApp the day before while on our boat when we had questions and confirmed we were still coming. They also will give you a full refund for should your boat happen to not dock or you must cancel. They truly went above and beyond and deserve more recognition and business and I’m happy to recommend them to all of you!A group of 12 of us (3 families) took the combo tour of ruins and lagoon while on a springs break cruise. A group of 12 of us (3 families) took the combo tour of ruins and lagoon while on a springs break cruise. So much better than booking through ship as our group traveled alone with our guides Jaasiel and Karla! Communication leading up to trip was phenomenal so it was easy to find pickup location. We had 4 kids with us (18 months-8 years old) and Jaasiel and Karla made sure they were entertained and fed (chips!). Ruins were great and we saw spider monkeys. Our group was alone with the guide there so kids got to ask tons of questions and we got great pics. Took 2 boats on lagoon and again Jaasiel and Karla made sure we had the absolute best time in the water! Tacos were delish! We made it back to the ship in time even with us being a little late to pickup location. Overall this was the highlight for the group of the whole week!!Jhoana Zamudio was a great and fun tour guide. Jhoana Zamudio was a great and fun tour guide. We learned about the area and the ruins/lagoon were the best excursion on our cruise vacation. The Lagoon is a magical place and should not be missed. It was a private tour with only one other person that joined us. You get a large pontoon boat where you can enjoy the lunch from the restaurant at the pier. Tacos were fresh and delicious. To get to the tour you need to get out of the Costa Maya shopping mall and walk towards the large pyramid outside the complex. The drive is about an hour to the lagoon but is well worth it and Jhoana will give you the history of the area and stop for snacks for the family. The ruins contain many pyramids and structures and you don't have to wait in line or wait for a tour guide, so the tour starts when you get out the car. We saw a monkey family in the trees by one of the pyramids. Thanks again for the great tour! Our tour guide Johanna was wonderful. So sweet & very informative....we saw the ruins and then went to Lake Bacalar. The lake was so beautiful & so many colors of blue.....after getting off the boat we went to a restaurant that have shrimp, beef & pork tacos.....what a wonderful day!

This was a perfect day. Four of us on a full day private tour. We arrived at the Chacchoben ruins well before the crowd of tourist buses and had the whole site to ourselves for about an hour. Bacalar lagoon pontoon ride and swim was very nice. Very clear fresh water and beautiful colors. Enjoyed seeing all four cenotes. Lunch was excellent. It is a bit of a drive to get to the sites, but worth it.If you’re looking for a fun excursion, whether it be a private one, like ours, or with a group, this one is the one to do! If you’re looking for a fun excursion, whether it be a private one, like ours, or with a group, this one is the one to do! We didn’t get to do the Chacchoben Ruins due to time constraints, but the Bacalar Lagoon Boat Excursion did not disappoint. Prepare for a 1-1.5 hour transportation to the Lagoon and for a great time once you get there. Jhoana, our tour guide, was nothing short of amazing. She greeted us immediately upon arrival with the biggest smile I’ve ever seen! Throughout the tour, she provided us with information about the cenotes and even swam with us! She took great care of us and made sure we were well fed and gave us some Mexican beers to wash it all down. Overall, the tour was about 2 hours long and was a great experience. Israel, the business manager, communicated with us 1-2 days in advance about our excursions and provided us with a refund, without hesitation, since we couldn’t complete the tour of the ruins. He also made sure we were taken care of in regards to transportation to and from the cruise port terminal in an air conditioned taxi. The pictures taken by Jhoana were sent to us very quickly. We made it back to our cruise ship port in time for departure. Overall, I’d highly recommend this excursion and company. Great communication, great sites to see, and great people to hang out with!
