This cascade is very handy. It keeps things cool and provides heaps of running water for the women of the town to come to the communal laundry to go the family wash. it provides an important source not just of water but social interaction for the women whose lives seem to be somewhat proscribed and cloistered. No need to make a special point of visiting it as you will just come across it while wandering around the hilly little town.

Constructed in the 15th century, Chefchaouen’s Grande Mosque was built on the orders of Moulay Mohamed Ben Ali Ben Rachid, the son of the city’s founder. It features an octagonal minaret, which is somewhat unusual when compared to the many square minarets that generally tower over the nation’s myriad mosques. The shape was influenced by Andalusian styles, brought to the country by Muslims from Spain. Built from stone, the shades of brown and beige are juxtaposed against the nearby blue and white buildings. Admiring the mosque is among the top things to do in the city.

Our driver, Monsef, was very pontual and flexible by allowing us to decide where to go first between Chefchaouen and Cap Spartel. We had water available for us in the car which was essential in the hot weather. We asked him to stop a couple of times to take pictures and buy souvenirs on the road and he was very kind in attending all our requests. In Chefchaouen, Nouaaman was our guide. He was very knowledgeable about the city and told us many stories about it. He presented us where to buy cheaper souvenirs in town and how to bargain with the merchants. We never felt to be in a rush and he still gave us some free time to wander around by ourselves after the guided tour. Definitely recommend his service.Amazing tour of Chefchaouen! Amazing tour of Chefchaouen! My drive, Rian, was absolutely lovely - we stopped for Moroccan tea on our way to Chefchaouen and had great conversation on the way there. Then in Chefchaouen Rian took me to meet my guide, Nouaman, who was equally lovely. He really knows the history and stories of Chefchaouen well, and we had a great tour, saw all the different parts of the old medina, stopped for some excellent freshly squeezed orange juice, and chatted along the way. I felt I got to really know the city and its people because of how great and knowledgeable Nouaman was. Then he took me to meet back up with Rian for a restaurant Rian recommended at a local riad, food was outstanding. Got back in the car to head back to Tanger, and Rian had bought me a few local Moroccan treats, such a nice guy! This excursion was a treasure! This excursion was a treasure! Because of flooding we didn’t have time to visit Cap Spartel/Hercules Caves, so we took a route to Chefchaouen with incredible views of the sea (shout out to our driver Rian!). Our tour guide, Yassin, was kind, knowledgeable, and friendly - you will learn a lot about the city and its history from him! Because we had a little extra time in Chefchaouen, Yassin took us on a hike up to a mosque overlooking the entire Medina. We ended the trip at a great restaurant with authentic Moroccan food. If you’re on the fence about booking this adventure, take the leap - as soon as you step into the winding blue streets, you’ll be glad you did!Had a wonderful tour of Chefchaouen with Nouaman! I would highly recommend this tour!! The drive to the city was also really nice and relaxing.
