Wonderful tour. We spent a full 3 hours there, and it has been the unexpected highlight of our trip thus far! Began with a lovely walk through their farm, seeing a wider variety of local fruits, herbs, & plants on their farm, capping off by running sugar cane through the "trapiche" (sp?) and tasting the lovely juice. From there they proceeded to give a thorough explanation of the process by which coffee/chocolate is produced from the beans/pods. Then concluded with making (& trying) of 3 different types of chocolate (the indigenous preparation of chocolate drink, an amazing hot chocolate, and then actually making chocolate candies), as well as some delicious coffee--all made with beans/cocoa from the farm. Avoid the more commercially-oriented tours closer to La Fortuna, and pay a visit to Don Jorge--you will find there a much more intimate/family setting and not be disappointed! Cannot recommend highly enough. Our time here was an unexpected highlight of our trip to Costa Rica. Our time here was an unexpected highlight of our trip to Costa Rica. It's a family farm started by the father (the guy in the hat in their logo!), and now carried on by his two sons, one of their daughters, and her young son in the future. We learned a ton about chocolate/cocoa from farming to production, we made our own chocolate candy, we made amazing hot chocolate, we learned about a bunch of medicinal herbs and plants, and about the indigenous culture. We participated in extracting juice from sugar cane and making drinks and chocolates. It felt like we were part of the family, coming to visit distant relatives. My wife and I and our 20 year old and his girlfriend all felt it was a trip highlight. There was a warmth and familiarity that could not be replicated on a larger tour or farm. On top of it all, there is a lovely hike through the rainforest to a private waterfall and swimming hole. It was incredible. Tour busses and big organized tours aren't my thing, so a family farm with generations continuing to work the land and talk with pride and knowledge about their family history and business was an unbeatable experience.Highly recommend! It was a lovely, personalized experience. We were the only family there and prefer this to larger, more touristy-type of group tours. It was about 2 hours long. Highly recommend! It was a lovely, personalized experience. We were the only family there and prefer this to larger, more touristy-type of group tours. It was about 2 hours long. It really gave us and my children a sense of a typical Costa-Rican family home and business which is what we wanted. This is a multi-generational family-owned farm and the owners take great pride in teaching others about the origins of the cacao tree and chocolate. Very informative and interactive. They are so nice and pleasant to talk with. The waking tour (several steps down- not for those with significant mobility issues) is simple but thoughtful. It allows you to appreciate all the foundational raw ingredients- from the cacao to the spices that we used to season the chocolate and the sugar cane juice which we pressed ourselves. So good! Very interactive with plenty of opportunities to keep the attention our kids who appreciated helping with the process of making our own chocolate. The chocolate and the coffee at the end of the tour are amazing. Some of the best coffee we’ve ever had. We did not do the waterfall but I wish we had- it was hot and would have been nice to cool off, but silly us we had just been to waterfalls the day before and skipped it. It’s probably worth it to take a dip and cool off. We loved our time with Ronald and his family and would love to come back next time we are in La Fortuna, even if just to visit and enjoy a cup of coffee again.Tolle private Tour. Tolle private Tour.

Amazing! Personal tour of a huge and beautiful family owned organic farm. You will learn about various plants, will drink the juice of the sugar cane plant, and will learn how to make coffee and chocolate. Afterwards, cool off in the waterfall (it was 4 m deep so we just dipped our toes). Martin and Monica were gracious and kind. Avoid the crowds and support this family farm. You will be glad you did.
