Overview
You’ll paddle along mangroves, enjoy white sand beaches and sandbars, and explore a secluded beach. If the tide is high, your guide will lead the way through a hidden mangrove tunnel. Shell Key Preserve is located in Tierra Verde, FL near St. Pete Beach in the Tampa Bay area.
Keep your eyes peeled for dolphins, manatees, pelicans, crabs, and more while enjoying the preserve’s picturesque mangroves, beaches, and sandbars. Be on the lookout for a manatee or the beautiful pink Roseate Spoonbills in the summer months. White Pelicans call the sandbars of Shell Key Preserve their home during the winter months! We did this tour; Jenna was our guide. It was an unusually windy morning, and Jenna ensured we kayaked safely and avoided the highest gusts. She gave great information on the many fish, birds, plants and trees we saw. We were lucky enough to see a few dolphins...and Jenna made sure we had time to watch them, and still see all the other sites. We would do this tour again with Get up and Go! And we will ask for Jenna. What a fun experience to kayak in a clear boat. Ben was very knowledgeable re: the various waterfowl, shells on the preserve and vegetation in the area. What a fun experience to kayak in a clear boat. Ben was very knowledgeable re: the various waterfowl, shells on the preserve and vegetation in the area. It was a 2.5-3 mile paddle experience with time to explore on the beach. I would have loved a little more paddle and a lesser time on the beach but it was a nice balance for all participants that joined the excursion.Pretty awesome experience! Our guide Chris was great with lots of good information and energy. He was able expertly guide us and even did jump in and find us a very large lightening whelk to hold and get pictures with. We adventured some on shell key and collected some beautiful early morning shells. We liked it so much that we took the ferry back over to Shell Key later that day.It was fun getting to kayak through the preserve! We got to go through the Mangrove tunnels and even saw a dolphin in the distance. Our tour guide, Chris, was entertaining and knowledgeable. We recommend the experience.
