Incredible food/drink paired with fun historical facts about Colorado Springs. Even as a native I learned a lot, and I’d do it again.

My husband and I took the Cocktails and appetizers tour in downtown Colorado Springs this weekend—he surprised me with the day date, and it was so much fun! Not only was our guide, Jason, super knowledgeable about the history of Colorado Springs and the prohibition era, he was super friendly and helped our group to get to know one another—after one cocktail, we were all getting along great, LOL! The four stops were all distinct and delicious—we started at Four, by Brother Luck, which might have been my favorite stop of the day. I am not typically a jalepeño popper girl, but these artisan poppers with cream cheese in a tempura batter were delicious. For our cocktail, I believe we had their take on a sidecar (called the passenger?). It was so good. Our next stop was Bird Tree Cafe which was so cute—we had their sangria, which was delicious—pretty sweet, but I like sweet cocktails. They offered us a garlic knot type pretzel which was delicious and something I needed to soak up the booze! Stops three and four were both speakeasies—Brooklyn’s On Boulder Street (which is disguised as a haberdashery) was super cute and a fun spot—they don’t serve food so we had charcuterie from a nearby spot, and our cocktail was called the Aviator…they specialize in gin, and this was colored blue with some sort of natural root. We ended up buying two of their artisan liqueurs—their peppermint schnapps (which we took up skiing with us the next day, made for a great apres ski boozy hot chocolate!), and a fruity liquer (forbidden fruit?) which we plan to mix into cocktails at home. The last stop was District Elleven, which was a cool building that was apparently the old El Paso County jail. They specialize in whiskey, it seemed, which is not exactly my jam, but the old fashioned they served us was pretty good despite not being my taste. District Elleven is connected to a tapas spot called Mood, which we had dinner at afterwards! The tour was great and I’d highly recommend it to anyone visiting Colorado Springs, and well worth the drive from Denver, too!behr was an amazing guide. drinks were awesome. food was great. never done one of these before but I’m glad I did.
