Although not much of a reader of fiction I am an admirer of Colleen McCullough not just for great career but also as a fan of Norfolk Island having visited several times I admired her passion for the place and its people. This small group tour does feel like you have been given the privileged opportunity to experience a little piece of Col's private world. Her home 'Out Yenna' is set on a lovely large private plot, well set back from the road with many trees on the land. The tour just covers the ground floor living space as upstairs is off limits for privacy which is quite reasonable. Tour guides are knowledgeable and offer real insight to how Colleen worked and lived. You will see her wonderful collection of glass and crystal wares, furniture and her kitchen which is definitely able to cater for larger gatherings and to allow for the fact Colleen was quite tall, as is her widower Ric you will see that the kitchen workbenches are a little bit higher than average. The most impressive area I found was her writing room and library as there were so many books available for Colleen to use as a reference point it really highlighted her professionalism and the efforts she went to for research. My husband is a big fan of her Roman series of books and there are shelves and shelves of reference books to hand that she would have used in order to get the best detail. This is a great tour, a privilage in fact, highly recommended. Before you leave Norfolk Island don't forget to go to the islands wonderful cemetery and pay your respects to Colleen. **Note** No cameras allowed on tour, the house is still a home so please respect this. It has been a while since I actually did the tour, I have no photos from the time else I would be adding them to this review, i can't imagine this reqrement has changed. Vile home, vile furnishings and a bored tour guide/housekeeper. Like so much on Norfolk Island, this tour gave you what some of the locals (in this case, the ones who had benefited from the writer’s largesse) wanted you to hear. Carefully curated, and propping up a myth. The housekeeper should have concentrated on cleaning the place, especially the toilet in the bookstore. It was filthy.
