My girlfriend and I took the Underground Colosseum Tour(plus third tier), Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. Our guide, Cinzia, was OUTSTANDING! She was very friendly, patient, extremely knowledgeable and easy to understand. She answered all our questions, offered to take our pictures with our cameras at several locations and gave us dining recommendations for our lunch break and restaurants to try during our stay in Rome. We could not be more pleased with our experience. This was the one tour i was looking forward to for our entire Europe trip. This was the one tour i was looking forward to for our entire Europe trip. We did the VIP Colosseum Underground Tour, Third Tier, Roman Forum & Palatine Hill. I am a huge Roman & Egyptian history nerd and with our tour being on Fathers day i was VERY EXCITED. We showed up exactly as told at 10:30am and met Thomas our guide (friendly, outgoing, funny and personable). Our group had 8 of us (my family of four and 2 additional couples). Thomas took us through the entire Palatine Hill and then down through the forums. After this we had a 45minute pit stop where we got some Paninis, beer and restocked our water. After this we went on to the Colosseum. At this point i really appreciated the "skip the line" portion. You bypass the standard line and jump to the front where you go through security with everyone else. My guess is this probably saves you anywhere from 30 minutes + depending on time of day. Once inside the Colosseum you lr group neets up with 2 other groups and the 3 groups combined get to go through another special security area and then down underneath the actual Colosseum floor. Thomas led the underneath portion and then took us all out onto the actual stage. He handed us off to one of the other tour guides who then took us all up to the top of the second tier. These three places are all reserved just for this tour and really made this entire trip for me. Once we were done we handed back our headsets to Thomas and we were able to stay inside and go see what everyone gets to see. I cant tell you how many times after we ended how many people that came up to us and asked "how did you get to go up/down there?" Im leaving out so much just due to my fingers being tired writing my 5th review but here is what i can say. In the 3 weeks we've been to the greek islands, Athens and the Acropolis and its surroundings, Rome and the Vatican and now Paris with the Eiffel and Louvre. Out of all of the places we visited THIS specific tour is the one we keep bringing up and talking about. I cant underestimate how Awesome Thomas was as a guide, especially when compared to the other 2. They are all very good, but id be lying if i didn't say all 8 of us felt like we lucked out that day. Notes: -The tour is very long (5-6 Hours) and he takes you everywhere. Bring cold water, Great walking shoes and a camera with lots of storage. -At the break period get Panini's from the "1st" cafe on the corner. They're delicious. -Bring a large 1.5L water with you. There are several spots to refill, but be smart and being one with you. -Leave your bags at your hotel/apartment. Time and time again we saw people have to scramble and shove stuff into pockets and then watch their nice backpack go bye-bye. -Lastly, guides, especially good ones are a wealth of knowledge about life in "fill in the city". When asked about where Thomas goes for a special dinner in town (aka wheres the best pasta / authentic Italian joint around) he told us that he just had a friend arrive in town and that he was taking them to Ristochicco. This turned out to be the best Pasta i have ever eaten in my life. I cant thank Thomas enough for the tour and advice he gave us. It truly made for an unforgettable special fathers day. If you get a chance and have the time i cant recommend this tour and Thomas enough. If i were to do it again id make sure when i booked this to request Thomas as my guide. Thanks again Thomas. We did a 5 hour walking tour of the Colosseum Underground (Plus Third Tier), Roman Forum & Palatine Hill. We did a 5 hour walking tour of the Colosseum Underground (Plus Third Tier), Roman Forum & Palatine Hill. I'll admit my fiance and I were a bit hesitant about a 5 hour tour but we are SO glad we went. Our tour guide Kathy was amazing! She did an incredible job of weaving all the different time periods into the tour. She was engaging and fun, the 5 hours flew by! We would recommend doing this tour to anyone wanting to truly experience the ancient ruins and have a more complete understanding of the history of Rome.We took the VIP Colosseum Underground , Third Tier,Roman Forum and Palatine Hill tour. We took the VIP Colosseum Underground , Third Tier,Roman Forum and Palatine Hill tour. It was expensive but worth every penny as you get to see the places that regular tours don't take you and you don't wait in the very long lines. Katarina and John, our tour guides, were excellent. They were so knowledgeable and informative. It is a long tour on foot so not for the faint hearted - I think we were walking for about five and a half hours but the guides make it all so interesting you don't really notice the aching legs! Our only criticism would be that the half hour lunch break is not really enough. Katarina showed us a good place to eat but by the time you have ordered, waited for the food to arrive and then eaten it's a bit of a rush back to the meeting place for the next part of the tour. Make sure you take comfortable shoes and a bottle of water! A great experience we wouldn't have missed and would do again. Thank you Katarina and John. This personal tour with Emma was completely amazing. She was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic.
