This was a breathtaking experience. Jorge started off the day with a scenic drive to the Cotopaxi national park, and he explained the various volcanoes surrounding Ecuador as well as local knowledge. Jorge is very knowledgeable. The horse riding is simply amazing - we rode horses across the meadows in the national park with Cotopaxi in the background. I had a bit of horse riding experience so we could trot and it was super fun! The most challenging part is the hike up to the shelter at Cotopaxi, but Jorge was very patient and waited for me to catch my breath every few steps as I was not acclimatised yet. He gave pointers on how to hike effectively. The best part is when we finally got to the shelter, he got me a cup of hot chocolate! That was definitely the highlight of the day after that difficult hike. Highly recommend this experience!!If you really want to embrace the Ecuadorian outdoors and are willing to physically engage with nature, I can't recommend enough spending the day with Jorge. If you really want to embrace the Ecuadorian outdoors and are willing to physically engage with nature, I can't recommend enough spending the day with Jorge. He arranged a day that was special in so many respects. The horseback trek around Chalupa led by a chagra was just the start. Ending the day with a hike up Cotapaxi to the shelter was exhilarating (and exhausting), but Jorge is extremely patient and adjusts his speed to match a slower pace. His goal is for his guests to enjoy the experience, and it showed throughout the day. I really appreciated the fact that he took pictures and videos of our trip and sent them to us afterwards (I have never seen that from a guide unless it was specifically requested). Overall, you will have a wonderful day with Jorge, but be prepared to physically push yourself and understand that you might have to take it easy and rest the next day! Absolutely worth it, though. :)
