I liked being able to do the less touristy hike of Navy Peak and cycling and visiting a quiet local village (Viet Hai Village) as well as doing the kayaking and swimming. Thank you for making our stay in Vietnam well worth our while!Amazing 3 days, they know when / where to go that's away from the other boats - we didn't quite realise untill you arrive at the area where boats have to anchor at night how many there are because when we were out and about doing the activities we only saw 2 or 3 other cruises. Amazing 3 days, they know when / where to go that's away from the other boats - we didn't quite realise untill you arrive at the area where boats have to anchor at night how many there are because when we were out and about doing the activities we only saw 2 or 3 other cruises. Kayaking through the lagond and caves was so nice and peacefull, and our hike up to Navy Peak was tough (the path is very rocky and non maintained) but super rewarding with amazing views. Most people did the 2 day tours so we had to switch boat halfway through to a different group, but was so worth doing the 3 day tour and we ended up getting a speedboat ride to our hike on day 2 which was epic. All 3 of our guides were amazing Jack, Son and Tony thanks for an amIng experience! The trip was excellent, great activities and hidden spots. Tour guide Hang was lovely, very informative and friendly.

My family reserved a boat for the 6 of us to tour Halong Bay and Cat Ba area. Let me do a recap of the positives and negatives here: Positives: 1. The boat could have accommodated 20 so it was ridiculously lots of space for us. In that sense it is a luxury 2. Our guide Hean (could’ve gotten the spelling wrong) is earnest and sincere, and does his best to engage us. I enjoyed the chat with him between activities 3. Food is generally excellent, and they made sure that while at sea we are pampered with plenty of seafood 4. The boat does make an effort to stop a distance from other boats which are mostly party boats, where it is less polluted 5. One of the key selling point is that they do give you more hours than other tours, which typically try to turn around the boat before noon so the boats can start it’s next run at noon. We were able to start our tour earlier than others on day 1, and last day ended about 3.30pm, which meant we don’t have to rush 6. We had flexibility with our schedule since we booked the boat. On day 3 when we no longer want to swim, we went for cycling and hiking instead Can be better: 1. 3D2N is a bit of of an overkill imo. It felt like having the 2D1N activities spread over 3D, so everything was simply slower. We hung around earlier, rest longer in between activities, spend a little too much time at each location, and didn’t feel like it was an efficient use of time. There is only so much swimming and kayaking that we want to do each day. If I am to do it again I would choose 2D1N instead. Or ask for a more robust itinerary, maybe head even further out 2. While the website said the boats are ‘new’, they are anything but. Newer western boats are touring Halong and comparatively, the wooden local boats were obviously dated and basic. The airconditioners are underpowered and it’s condensation drops into the toilets and bathrooms and it floods a little. It also doesn’t help that the rooms weren’t tightly partitioned so the cold air leaks out, making it harder to cool the rooms 3. Also didn’t like that the soap water flows out to sea. It might be a common practice across all boats, but I didn’t like polluting the sea (the bay is already straining with pollution) 4. The places they visit are not as obscure as they are made to be. Maybe a slight bit different from others, but plenty of other boats and tourists visit them as well. It’s not that very exclusive, but then again it’s not reasonable to expect gems in the bay to be secret right? Taking it all into perspective, the issue that Cat Ba Ventures needs to tackle is the aging hardware. Its service is perfectly fine. And I guess if customers want to book a private tour, it may make sense to trade off by using an older wooden boat than a bigger modern boat. Nevertheless I wished the boat could have been more modern and comfortable. Plus you have longer use of the boat. I highly recommend to visit Viet Hai village, which is a really beautiful place. If you’ll like to trek, Cat Ba Island itself offers lovely treks but you’ll need proper shoes. Also note there is no wifi. There isn’t any network at most places at sea so naturally a wifi network on the boat is largely pointless.Ben and bee were great, funny and helpfully. They are nice and helpt use really well. I come back next year.

Great 3 Days on Board with Cat Ba Ventures. Activities and Tour Guides were great. We had Captain Jack, Tony and No-Name as Guides and all did a great Job. Food on Board really good and the best part was that we only were 15 people on board, which really makes a difference. You can sit down and enjoy the beauty of the Bay without big hustle around you. Cat Ba is a bit hard to reach as you need to get on the Island first, but we are glad we invested this time to be more away from the big crowds in Ha Long. Most of the people on the Boat did the 1 Night 2 Days, but we really enjoyed the extra day with Bike and Hike.
