Overview
The Day Hike in Darjeeling Tonglu - Tumling is the perfect one day getaway to crisp mountain views, after passing through friendly villages and sharing a meal with locals. It is perfect for those who have limited time in Darjeeling, but can’t leave without seeing the colossal Himalayan peaks. In fact, on this single day tour, you will come face to face with Kanchenjunga (8586 meters / 28, 169 feet), and if you’re lucky, Mount Everest (8848 meters / 29, 0290) will make an appearance!

Before reaching Darjeeling for our 3 day trip, we had made a list of things to do and on top of our list was a trek to Singalila national Park. And after talking to a couple of tour operators who quoted us exorbitant rates for a day trip, Gautam at Ashmita tour received us nicely in the office and gave us great rates and details about our trip. Next day Gautam's dad, Mr Rupesh (guide) met us at 6 am sharp with driver Sujit and we drove off to dhoteray from where we would start our trip. Sujit was an excellent driver and we were happy to have a driver who didn't drive like a racecar and made our drive enjoyable (contrary to many drivers where we are holding on to our seatbelts, if available, with our dear lives). The breakfast at Dhotrey were scrumptious Momos and Chai, and from there were started the trek with significant climb to tonglu. The trek was beautiful with gorgeous views of Kanchenjunga and also the fall colors and leaves on the trail made it heavenly. From tonglu we walked to Tumling which was slightly downhill and that's where we had our lunch of veggie soupy noodles that was exactly what we needed. Rajeev was extremely knowledgeable and took us through off road and off beaten path as often as possible and we visited many monasteries on our way, weaving in an out of India and Nepal, which was very cool. Then we had mostly downhill trek through dense fog and clouds which unfortunately shielded us from views of the mountains but still, walking through forests in it was an experience in itself. We reached chethre by 3 and were home by 5 pm. Making it an almost 12 hr excursion. Highly recommendedvvnaditya

I had an excellent day with my guide Sangay and our driver. Learned a lot about local life. Even the fact that there were no views of the Himalayas due to the whether did not ruin the day. Also had one of the best meals while in India.

My day trek to Tonglu was a highlight, all thanks to Tenzi's expert guidance and Dipu's safe driving. Tenzi's knowledge of the region and passion for nature enriched the journey. The trek showcased beautiful landscapes and a delightful breakfast and lunch (incl. Momo, local vegetables, Dahl, etc)...

Ashmita tours was a fantastic experience. Communicating with Subash and Norbu over the phone was easy and informative. They were patient in answering all our questions and provided multiple options. After signing up for the single day Tonglu trek, our driver, and guide Sangay were friendly and on time. The hike itself was magical! There were multiple stops for breakfast/snacks and ended with a nice lunch at Chitrey. Our guide Sangay was amazing! He spoke excellent English and was very friendly. He was very experienced and was able to guide us effortlessly through intense mist/fog. We had excellent conversations with him all along the way, including asking him for all his stories about summiting multiple peaks around Asia! We would not hesitate to book with Ashmita tours and especially would recommend Sangay for anything from a single day to multi-week long trek. Thanks Sangay & Ashmita for our favorite experience during our time in Darjeeling!
