Day trip to Chefchaouen and Akchor water falls
Overview
Chefchaouen, in the Rif Mountains north of Morocco, is a popular destination for visitors. Chefchaouen is well worth exploring in a day trip, the medina is attractive and small enough to navigate easily and you will find shops and artisans offering many local crafts. Near the river, you can see women washing laundry in the way they have for centuries, in their colorful striped aprons which are typical of the region.Trekking in the Rif Mountains will help you encounter a number of different wildlife. Wild boar is another common animal to find on your trek through the forests. Species of Spanish trees, olive dot, and cork oak also spread across the area.

Chefchaouen is a nice city in the mountains that is known as the blue city secondary to the previous large jewish influence in the area painting the buildings blue for protection with the hamsa and evil eye for protection. The guide Mohammed was a little overboard in my opinion. He claimed to love everything, but his own opinions came out during the tour frequently, which became a bite offensive. I also felt like a $ sign with him. He took us to use the restroom and it was accompanied by purchasing a beverage along with it. Secondly, when we were in the city, somehow we ended up in a rug shop (we didn't ask or want to buy a rug), I presume of his friends. It was a huge sales pitch. We ended up buying a blanket and after looking into cost looks like we paid way to much. Lunch was nice in Chefchaouen and I found the rest of the tour nice. When you get to Akchor don't expect your guide to come with you and be ready for a hike... we were definitely shocked by this. I expected to drive to the falls, but it is not the case. We got a bit lost in the wilderness and took approximately 45 minutes to walk to the "little falls." We didn't have time to hike to the "large falls" which per locals takes 1.5-2 hours to walk too. What we did see was beautiful.Coucou638
