Stop At: Tiger Hill Observation Deck, Darjeeling 734101 India

Tiger hill is the highest point in the Darjeeling area. An early morning trip to witness the sunrise is a must. Watching the rising sun strike the colossal Mt. Kanchenjunga range of snow_capped peaks in a blaze of rapidly changing colors is truly spectacular.Tiger Hill is now part of a nature preserve the meadows of which are suitable for picnics. From, Tiger Hill, take a small walk downhill to visit the Sincheal temple, dedicated to Hindu Godness Durga.

Stop At: Batasia Loop, Ghum, Darjeeling 734102 India

The heritage train makes a 360 degree turn at this gigantic railway loop almost 5 kilometre from town.Built to help the steam train negotiate the steep terrain. Batasia Loop is strategically located to offers a panoramic view of the mountain beyond.
Within the loop lies a war memorial that commemorates the brave souls who scarified their lives in India various war since 1947. Adjacent to the memorial is a local market where visitors can buy purses, bag and other decorative items.

Just below Ghoom railway station about 8 km, away from Darjeeling town Yiga Choling is the largest of Darjeeling's "Three Monastery". Built in 1875 by Lama Sherab Gyatso, its content images of Buddhist deities and lamas, such as Chen Rezig the buddhist of compassion and Tsongkhapa the founder of the Geluvpa Sect. The monastery also contains or huge 15_foot image of Jampeyang, the Buddha of the future. A large collection of liturgical text includes the 108_volume Kangyur, the Tibetan Buddhist cannon.

Situated about 5 kilometre from the Darjeeling main market right on the National Highway lies Ava Art Gallery, established in 1965 by the Lato Bhopal Rao Sett and Ava Devi. it is still one of the few art galleries of its kind in the Darjeeling hills, and display a collection of 60 pieces of exquisite artwork of Ava Devi including water, oil and thread paintings.

The Japanese Peace Pagoda was established by followers of the Nipponzan Myohoji, a Japanese Buddhist order. The pagoda is the highest free- standing structure in town, and showcase the avatars of Buddha near the pagoda is the Nipponzan Myohoji Temple, which is built in a traditional Japanese style and offers visitors a place for peace and introspection. Visitor may meditate and interact with the resident Japanese monks and photography is permitted the temple.

Stop At: Dhirdham Temple, Near Darjeeling Railway Station, Darjeeling 734102 India

Situated below the Darjeeling Railway Station, this temple was built in 1939 by Rai Saheb Purna Bahadur Prdhan. It was designed by the Gorkhali architect Beg Raj Sakya to replicate the Pashupatinath temple complex of Kathmandu Nepal. A statue of Lord Shiva stands outside the main temple, representing his five different facial expressions with the universal Third eye.
There are tree and shrubbery all around making the entire premise look really nice and attractive .

You can also see small bridge with wonderful flower garden and beautiful trees. The Ganga Maya Park consists of a small lake where an individual can enjoy boating on paddle boats.

Stop At: Tibetan Refugee Self-Help Centre, Havelock Villa, 119/B, Gandhi Rd, Naya Basti, Darjeeling, Rungneet Tea Garden, West Bengal 734101, India

The Tibetan Refugee Self Help Centre (TRSHC), located in Lebong and locally known as Hermitage, was founded on October 2, 1959. Zhu Dan established this centre in 1959 with funds raised through local charity (wife of Gyalo Thondup). Initially, the facility provided emergency relief to Tibetan refugees who had made the perilous journey across the Himalayas into India. For Tibetans, the Hill-side held special significance because the Thirteenth Dalai Lama had spent his exile in India from 1910 to 1912, following the Chinese invasion of Tibet at the time. The centre was established as a charitable organisation under the Indian government's act. The centre began with just four employees and now houses 130 Tibetan families.The centre has been involved in a variety of activities, including handicrafts, artisan training, and craftsmen.

Lovely trip to the major sights in Darjeeling. Our driver was exceedingly patient and helpful. He helped make our experience in Darjeeling memorable. The sunrise at Tiger Hill was the best part, followed by the gorgeous hillside tea plantations north of the city.

My family and I joined the day tour. Most of the tourist destination in Darjeeling like Tiger Hill in the morning were included in the tour, so we were satisfied.

The trip included visits to the Tiger Hill for sunrise watching and possibly seeing Kanchenchunga, Ghum monastery, Himalayan Zoo, Happy Valley Tea. I booked this tour and subsequently arranged to be picked up from Bagdogra on Day 1 and did the Ghum train station and Batasia Loop on my way to the hotel. Day 2 was the tour with some changes I wanted made. I deleted the Tiger Hill Observation Deck because of the cloudy weather but was fortunate...
