Tiger hill is the highest point in the Darjeeling area. An early morning trip to witness the sunrise is a must. Watching the rising sun strike the colossal Mt. Kanchenjunga range of snow_capped peaks in a blaze of rapidly changing colors is truly spectacular.Tiger Hill is now part of a nature preserve the meadows of which are suitable for picnics. From, Tiger Hill, take a small walk downhill to visit the Sincheal temple, dedicated to Hindu Godness Durga.

The heritage train makes a 360 degree turn at this gigantic railway loop almost 5 kilometre from town.Built to help the steam train negotiate the steep terrain. Batasia Loop is strategically located to offers a panoramic view of the mountain beyond.
Within the loop lies a war memorial that commemorates the brave souls who scarified their lives in India various war since 1947. Adjacent to the memorial is a local market where visitors can buy purses, bag and other decorative items.

The monastery also contains or huge 15_foot image of Jampeyang, the Buddha of the future. A large collection of liturgical text includes the 108_volume Kangyur, the Tibetan Buddhist cannon.

Situated about 5 kilometre from the Darjeeling main market right on the National Highway lies Ava Art Gallery, established in 1965 by the Lato Bhopal Rao Sett and Ava Devi. it is still one of the few art galleries of its kind in the Darjeeling hills, and display a collection of 60 pieces of exquisite artwork of Ava Devi including water, oil and thread paintings.

The Japanese Peace Pagoda was established by followers of the Nipponzan Myohoji, a Japanese Buddhist order. The pagoda is the highest free- standing structure in town, and showcase the avatars of Buddha near the pagoda is the Nipponzan Myohoji Temple, which is built in a traditional Japanese style and offers visitors a place for peace and introspection. Visitor may meditate and interact with the resident Japanese monks and photography is permitted the temple.

Situated below the Darjeeling Railway Station, this temple was built in 1939 by Rai Saheb Purna Bahadur Prdhan. It was designed by the Gorkhali architect Beg Raj Sakya to replicate the Pashupatinath temple complex of Kathmandu Nepal. A statue of Lord Shiva stands outside the main temple, representing his five different facial expressions with the universal Third eye.

The Tibetan Refugee Self Help Centre (TRSHC), located in Lebong and locally known as Hermitage, was founded on October 2, 1959. Zhu Dan established this centre in 1959 with funds raised through local charity (wife of Gyalo Thondup). Initially, the facility provided emergency relief to Tibetan refugees who had made the perilous journey across the Himalayas into India. For Tibetans, the Hill-side held special significance because the Thirteenth Dalai Lama had spent his exile in India from 1910 to 1912, following the Chinese invasion of Tibet at the time. The centre was established as a charitable organisation under the Indian government's act. The centre began with just four employees and now houses 130 Tibetan families.The centre has been involved in a variety of activities, including handicrafts, artisan training, and craftsmen.

Lovely trip to the major sights in Darjeeling. Our driver was exceedingly patient and helpful. He helped make our experience in Darjeeling memorable. The sunrise at Tiger Hill was the best part, followed by the gorgeous hillside tea plantations north of the city.

The trip included visits to the Tiger Hill for sunrise watching and possibly seeing Kanchenchunga, Ghum monastery, Himalayan Zoo, Happy Valley Tea. The trip included visits to the Tiger Hill for sunrise watching and possibly seeing Kanchenchunga, Ghum monastery, Himalayan Zoo, Happy Valley Tea. The highlights of the trip was Tiger Hill and the zoo. The sunrise was beautiful, however it was hard to see with many people there. The zoo had some beautiful animals there including a Bengal Tiger, Leopard and Red Pandas. The trip communication before the day of the tour was slow. The organizer only communicated via messages. The final tour itinerary was not set up until 6 pm the day before. Including a delayed start time. I would have preferred a conversation with the organizer a few days before to know what to expect and let him know what I really wanted to see. The tour is not a guided one. The driver dropped us off at the sites. Beyond that we were on our own. A guided tour would have been better. Certainly the Tiger Hill experience would have been better with someone showing where to stand to get the best views. The driver was very curteous. The trip could have taken us to a few other sights that we chose not to go to. The Happy Valley Tea estate visit was OK. The walk up and down to see the estate required walking up and down several deep uneven steps. Not good for people with weak knees.lauriewD3517OA

I booked this tour and subsequently arranged to be picked up from Bagdogra on Day 1 and did the Ghum train station and Batasia Loop on my way to the hotel. Day 2 was the tour with some changes I wanted made. I deleted the Tiger Hill Observation Deck because of the cloudy weather but was fortunate...
I booked this tour and subsequently arranged to be picked up from Bagdogra on Day 1 and did the Ghum train station and Batasia Loop on my way to the hotel. Day 2 was the tour with some changes I wanted made. I deleted the Tiger Hill Observation Deck because of the cloudy weather but was fortunate to get a better view from the top of my hotel the next morning . I replaced the Ghoom Monastery with the Dali Monastery where believe it or not I had the best and cheapest coffee in Darjeeling. The monks certainly like their coffee !!. I thought the Tea Garden was a bit of a tourist trap in terms of getting tourists to dress up in traditional clothes and pretend to pick tea leaves. I did not do the Tibetan Refugee Self Help Center as last year I had visited Dharamsala where the Dalai Lama resides. Landslides prevented a visit to Gangamaya Park. I spent a lot of time at the Darjeeling railway station and Locomotive Shed taking lots of photos and videos of the steam trains shuttling the passenger carriages and departing for Ghum. At the suggestion of the host, on Day 3 I returned to my hotel in Siliguri where I had a wedding to attend, because of road closures on NH10 due to landslides and traffic jams on the route I travelled on to Darjeeling on Day 1 , I took an alternative route route. This was via the Nepal Border to Mirik , a very scenic and congestion free route. The stopovers at the pine forest and the tea plantation afforded great photo opportunities. I cannot recommend highly enough Green Escape Tours and Travel for their tours in the Darjeeling area. I also give recommend their choice of vehicle for the road conditions and their driver Amos for his driving skills and proficiency in the English language.Vacation39203293893
