Dirt Bike Hire
Overview
Our private Park is unique to New Zealand. Thundercross is a one-stop-shop for dirt biking, where you can hire bikes, have tuition from accredited coaches and ride a variety of trails! We offer everything you need to get amongst it and ride safely. Set in 750 acres of stunning Waikato countryside.
If you can ride a two-wheel pedal bike confidently; stopping/starting/steering and braking, you can ride a dirt bike. From approximately 5 years upwards; our most senior hirer is 80 years old!
No motorcycle licence or experience necessary. We carry the Adventure Mark safety accreditation and James is one of NZ's most experienced dirt bike coaches, so you will be in good hands. Our experienced Thundercross team will look after you.

What to expect
Please note we do require a 50% fully refundable Bond. The cost is $216.96 for adult hire and $173.48 for youth hire. Please be prepared to pay this via Eftpos, credit card or cash on the day, this will be refunded to you in the week following hire. It is rare that we need to withhold anything from your Bond and, should this be necessary, will be discussed with you at the time.
SCHEDULE: (for guidance; times may change)
08.30: Arrive for registration & induction and welcome coffee/hot drink/soft drink
10.00: Fitting of protective clothing & allocation of bike
10.30: Tuition commences (remember to bring your energy snacks and water, or purchase some from the Wool Shed):
(Beginners/novice) - from the ground:
- Key points of the bike
- Bike handling
On the bike:
- Starting
- Stopping
- Braking
- Changing gear
11.30: Practice on the Learners’ Track – a dedicated 35-acre paddock with a purpose-built loop 2km track. Enjoy your beautiful surroundings as you enjoy your new skill.
12.30: Lunchtime. Bring your own picnic or enjoy food available at our awesome Wool Shed. (Group catering can be arranged in advance - additional fee applies)
13.00: This second hour is a practical session, with the instructor(s) riding alongside you to progress your particular requirements. PLEASE NOTE: SECOND HOUR IS AN EXTRA COST FOR CHILDREN/YOUTH PACKAGES.
For Beginners/Novices there may be an (optional) opportunity for an accompanied ride around a section of the B Track (8km loop or rolling countryside in the lower hills of the Park) Important: beginner riders should not attempt the B Track without having had this 2nd session of coaching.
14:00: Free time to practice and enjoy our beautiful Park. Instructor(s) can be available to assist you and your individual needs.
16.00: Return bikes and protective gear. Time to relax and enjoy a farewell drink/nibbles at the Wool Shed before picking up your exclusive Thundercross cap
17.00: Depart, feeling tired and proud. Take lots of happy memories and fabulous photos for your social media (#Thundercross)

All the protective gear you need to ride safely at Thundercross is provided and is part of the bike hire fee: shirt, pants, boots, gloves, goggles and chest protector. (Bike and all protective gear are commercially washed after each hire).
By the end of your session James will have introduced you to the delights of dirt bike riding and helped you accomplish many new skills. Well done!

- A maximum of 8 people per booking
- The duration of transfers are approximate, the exact duration will depend on the time of day and traffic conditions
- Operates in all weather conditions, please dress appropriately
- Service animals allowed
- Travelers should have a moderate physical fitness level
- This tour/activity will have a maximum of 8 travelers
- Confirmation will be received at time of booking, unless booked within 7 days of travel. In this case confirmation will be received within 48 hours, subject to availability

Cancellation
For a full refund, cancel at least 24 hours in advance of the start time of the experience.

Fantastic day, I hired bikes for my two boys aged 13 and 9, they had a lesson with James (he was so patient and encouraging) then they rode until the park closed. Mandy was a wonderful host, We will go back for sure.

Riding a dirt bike is a great experience for the whole day! The views are mind-blowing and nature is marvelous. I had no experience with bikes. My friends taught me how to ride it. Mandy and James are very welcome to newcomers!

Great family day with friends, 9yo son had 2 lessons to with James - went from zero to hero with his patient and friendly tuition. Hired bike for son and myself (dad) great condition and awesome trails. Also hired all equipment which was clean and in A1 condition. Will definitely be returning.

We cannot WAIT to go back! My mate and I had never ridden on a track before. The facilities and knowledge here is world-class. Perusing the cabinets full of motocross trophies filled us both with confidence before we even got our boots on! The best quality, and immaculately-maintained bikes and riding gear with no expense spared on safety, shows that Thundercross Valley is lifestyle, and a passion for James, Mandy and the amazing team we met there on Saturday (and again on Sunday!) I absolutely, 100% recommend paying for the tuition course. I've been riding (big) road bikes for 25 years and had no idea how different this is. The skills, the positioning on the bike, the use of your body, brakes and clutch while riding. Trust me... Book some lessons, it'll change your life! So fun! The tracks are enormous, cater for every skill/experience level, and are so well created. It's actually mind blowing. We were there for hours, and I didn't even get off the learner's track. The next track up is 8kms long and the one after that is over 20! It's going to take me a lifetime to conquer Thundercross Valley! Cannot WAIT to go back!diannel627

We hired bikes and booked tuition for two of our grandsons aged 9 and 10. Their Dad and Uncle decided to hire bikes too. James was very patient with our novice riders and it was great to see the progress they made during the day. It was an awesome experience for all our riders.

I was impressed with the safety side of it. The 750 acres is so well set up with learners being well separated from the other tracks. James and Mandy are lovely people who run the place so well. I can't recommend Thundercross enough.
