I’m so glad we chose this private tour and you will be too. I’ve been on tours that last 12-14 hours and while you see a lot, the day is exhausting and can diminish the experience. This 8-hour tour is just right and the attractions are spectacular. Our tour guide’s name is Yut and he was excellent. Such a nice guy and very knowledgeable. The first stop is Doi Suthep Temple. Temples in Thailand are a lot like churches in Europe – they all start to look the same after a while. But Doi Suthep is a must-see. It’s at the top of a mountain and you have to walk up 300+ steps to get there, but it’s worth it. So beautiful and serene. Yut told us the wonderful story of Buddha as depicted in the paintings on the wall and helped me get a much better understanding of their beliefs. So fun to see all the back-alley vendors/market on the way up. After the Temple, we went to the Karen Long Neck village. We were initially concerned about going here because we didn’t want to contribute to exploiting these people. But it didn’t feel that way at all and they welcome tourists because it’s the primary way they earn money (selling their crafts). It was really cool to see this village and makes you appreciate everything we have. The next stop was lunch at the usual place that all the tourists go. Once we saw all the buses outside, we knew this was going to be one of those commercial Thai buffets that are lame and geared towards the 60+ crowd so we asked Yut if we could go someplace more authentic. We did and the food was quite good! Then came the Bua Thong waterfalls (sticky waterfall). Wow, this was fun! I’m glad we had a guide because I think I may have been too intimidated to climb it on my own. Yut was such a pro and scaled those rocks with ease. We definitely looked like tourists but what the heck, it was a blast! It wasn’t all that hard, although there are places with algae and quite slippery. Near the top you’ll need the ropes to assist you but it’s definitely doable. So glad we did it. We didn’t do the Bai Orchid and Butterfly farm. Not sure why, maybe we took too much time at the waterfall and temple? This was one of our favorite days in Chiang Mai and I highly recommend this tour to anyone. Our tour guide May was beyond excellent. Our tour guide May was beyond excellent. He made us feel comfortable from the moment he picked us up at our hotel and although it was an early start, he kept us enticed as he shared his knowledge of Chiang Mai whilst we journeyed through our stops for the day. During our visit to Doi Suthep temple, May described everything in a way that you could create a story with your imagination using the paintings/engravings/statues that he was talking about and therefore understand the Buddhist culture fully. He also advised us on how we could participate in the rituals in the correct manner. We managed to visit the long neck village at the perfect time, as it was quiet - it was particularly amusing to see how they interacted with May, as though he was one of their own (having brought tourists to their village so often). There was a great variety of delicious food for lunch that would appeal to all, within a lovely scenic setting of the colourful orchids. Climbing up Bua Tong Waterfalls was a definite thrill and an experience that we will never forget and we greatly appreciated that May willingly took pictures of us as family – allowing us to all get in the frame without any hassle! May was patient, friendly and humble in providing us with impeccable customer service – in fact he exceeded his requirements by fulfilling our wish to make one extra stop that we decided on as we toured through Chiang Mai with him (looking at those trip brochures in the seat pockets can lead you on an unexpected journey, that you will most definitely be thankful for – rather than missing out on somewhere you may never have thought of visiting before). We really cannot thank May enough for all his hospitality towards us, we wish him and his family a bright future. He truly made our trip to Chiang Mai one that we will never forget and has left us wanting to come back and explore the beautiful North of Thailand a little more!Yut was an amazing tour guide. This one was probably one of the best tour guides we booked on this trip. Our guide was super knowledgeable and friendly didn’t rush us when we wanted to take pictures. The first stop to the temple was incredible! Having his knowledge there was helpful to know the daily routines of the monks and what the different statues meant. Visiting the Karen long neck village was humbling these women and children are absolutely beautiful. Lunch at the orchid and butterfly farm was a nice treat. Food was delicious and the atmosphere was one of a kind. Final stop at the waterfall was so much fun. Didn’t think I could climb but it’s fairly easy with the help of the ropes. Some parts were slippery but definitely doable. Would recommend this guide to anyone!
