Dolmabahçe Palace: Skip the line Ticket with Guided Tour
Overview
It is built by the orders of Sultan Abdülmecid I, opened at 1856, and the aim of it was to put the empire at the same degree of the European monarchies. Topkapı Palace holds a some portion of the main relics of the main religions of the world and the fourth biggest and precious diamond on the planet. On the other hand Dolmabahçe Palace holds the greatest gathering of Baccarat and Bohemian chandeliers on the planet, including the biggest Bohemian chandelier ever. The palace has such a great amount of gold in it, that practically half of the cost of the construction came from the gold used distinctly for the ceilings!
Another distinction of Dolmabahçe Palace with the Topkapı Palace is the way that the furniture use when the palace was used, except the european-styled architecture.

The tour was well organised, it is very mid 18th century architecture, furniture etc, as influences from around Europe are used. One could be in France or Italy. A lot of walking, it is a massive place, for those with mobility issues, allow another hour (it took us 2 from start to finish) and there are a lot of stairs! Nice gardens and places to drink before and after, close to tram stop. We had a personal tour, which gave us more insight into the family history . . . No interior photos allowed.Fabulous palace! Very luxurious, a nice trip through history, the staircase is one of the most marvelous things I’ve seen.

We booked this tour as a way to avoid long queues to get in and also have some explanation. What a waste. I don’t have a problem with the palace it was spectacular. But the tour is another matter. Guide didn’t leave at the specified time as he was waiting for potential other people. We ended up with a group of 41! You have to use audio guides in the palace. Guides don’t actually speak to you as they don’t want the place to get noisy. It took ages to get Audio guides as you need id or money to secure them on loan. Every person needs official id. Even children or you have to pay 100eur or 200tl each if you don’t have id The guide lead us in and then disappeared. The time it took to actually get in we could have queued and saved money on the guide with the use of audio. The tour was around 1 hour. The guide was big disappointment, zero explanation and zero knowledge on the heritage and history behind the palace. The palace itself is very fancy reflecting the wealth of Ottoman Empire. Breathtaking view and architecture.
