This was honestly one of the best days of my entire life. We went on the all day tour to Blasket Island on a beautiful blue day. The island is well worth a visit if you're reasonably well and up for a walk. I am not especially fit and I found it fine. It's amazing to see the deserted houses and the island itself is stunning, offering incredible views of the surrounding landscape. We saw a rare dragonfly, grey seals, and plenty of chough, which I've never seen before. Then it was on to the cetaceans. We saw common and bottlenose dolphins, minke whale and no less than three humpback whales which are careful not to cause stress to the animals. Thalso a first for me. The birdlife was also excellent: gannets fishing at close range, sooty shearwater, the odd guillemot and razorbill, fulmar, oystercatcher, storm petrels, and terns. The people running this care passionately about wildlife and aree dolphins seemed to love swimming alongside the boat and frequently jumped out of the water. The knowledgeable crew could identify the whales by their individual flukes. To cap it all off, the crew released a Manx Shearwater that had become disoriented on land. These incredible birds are tiny yet fly so far. It was wonderful to see one so close. Can't recommend this highly enough. It’s never certain if the whales, dolphins or sea birds will show up… but what is certain is that the people who run this operation care passionately about the wildlife they take you to see. Their knowledge was extensive - they even recognise individual hump back whales (we saw whale number 127 - an old favourite!). I could not recommend this trip more strongly. We had a fantastic day with the team from Eco Marine Tours, starting from Ventry Pier we were taken around Slea Head and into the Great Blasket where we had 3 hours to explore the village and beyond, we rambled back along the Island and made our way up to the old ruined signal tower, the views we...
We had a fantastic day with the team from Eco Marine Tours, starting from Ventry Pier we were taken around Slea Head and into the Great Blasket where we had 3 hours to explore the village and beyond, we rambled back along the Island and made our way up to the old ruined signal tower, the views were amazing, then a picnic on the white strand before we were picked up again. Around the island onboard the Blasket Princess with super views of Tuaisceart, Inis na Bro and Inishvickillane, saw the herd of red deer on Inishvickillane and out to sea then where we sighted pods of common dolphin, bottlenose, rissos and a hump back whale! Well worth booking this trip 10/10.
