This is a fun approximately three and a half hour tour, full of a variety of foods with an overlay of interesting facts and impressions. The food is varied and different from what you might get if you tried to do it on your own. We ate in a bunch of small stalls, trying sweetened soy milk, steamed buns, crepe-like crispy pancakes, noodles and sweets. Interspersed with these dishes was a curated walk through the neighborhood, a coffee/tea break at which we tried a concoction made from cold brew and tonic (!!) and a visit to a wet market. Our guide, Li, made it all enjoyable and even scored with most of his jokes. There was no need to eat again until dinner.Visiting China you often find yourself the only english speaking person among thousands. Visiting China you often find yourself the only english speaking person among thousands. This makes it particularly hard to find "local spots" or "local eateries" to have any semblance of an authentic experience. The UnTours makes that possible and does so with fun and friendliness. Absolutely worth the price the tour takes you through local areas, adds some history and context to your location and brings as much food as you can handle. Additionally, my partner is vegan and she was able to find food options at nearly every single stop. They really make an effort to get to know you, make it a social and friendly experience. Highly highly recommended! The breakfast tour doesn't only give you great insight into the breakfast world of Shanghai but also boasts a lovely walk through the French Concession filled with fun facts about the city. The breakfast tour doesn't only give you great insight into the breakfast world of Shanghai but also boasts a lovely walk through the French Concession filled with fun facts about the city. I've been living in Shanghai for over 6 years now and yet our guide Kelvin managed to show me details about this city I've never noticed before even though I walk by them every day. This is a great opportunity for first-time Shanghai visitors to get a solid introduction into Chinese breakfast culture or a nice way to try out that curious looking pancake, you've seen Chinese people eat, but never really had the courage to try. Be prepared for copious amounts of food and quite possibly a little food coma.I am Shanghainese, born and raised, and absolutely LOVED my morning breakfast tour with Kelvin. I am Shanghainese, born and raised, and absolutely LOVED my morning breakfast tour with Kelvin. I used to spend time in this part of town as a child but I hadn’t had a chance to explore it in years. My husband thought it would be a fun surprise for my birthday to go on a tour. Totally impressed with our guide Kelvin, who is also from Shanghai, and with his enthusiasm and knowledge of the city. He’s super easy going and it feels like you’re just hanging out with a good friend. Be ready for copious amounts of food and you should not make plans for lunch. Thanks Kelvin and the UnTour team for a birthday I will not forget!
