What to expect

• Drive towards the desert and settlement of Ubar the well known lost city which is believed to be swelled by the desert without leaving any traces .this Place was visited by many explorers like Wilfred Thesiger and Ranulph Fiennes. It is also associated with texts in the Quran.
• Beyond Ubar are the Mega Dunes of the Empty Quarter that rise to a height of 250 meters and above.
• Search in the sand for the small Geodes which are scattered around (Rare in this tour)
• Have lunch at Thumrait (Optional).
• On your way back to Salalah you may see a UNESCO site with Frankincense Trees (Availability not guaranteed).

Our tour guide was Khaled. Very nice tour & even he has been surprised that me & my husband we the only one to go to the Empty Quarter in the heat. We weren't lucky to find any geodes, but the experience was amazing.

Nous avons passé une excellente journée dans le désert. Très belle excursion dans les grandes dunes. Guide très sympathique et professionnel. Ponctuel, avenant et bon chauffeur.

Experiencia excelente. Linda paisagem. Apenas ocorreu dificuldade com local de encontro. Esperamos varias horas para ser guiados ao destino final. Apesar disto, vimos o por do sol nas dunas!

Escursione di un’intera giornata. Organizzazione Eden viaggi costo €190. Partenza alle 13 dall’hotel Fanar con 12 fuoristrada da “5600 cavalli” di cilindrata. 48 viaggiatori curiosi. La nostra guida è il mitico Alladin, molto esperto,preparato e fantasioso. Si attraversa il governatorato di Dhofa...
Escursione di un’intera giornata. Organizzazione Eden viaggi costo €190. Partenza alle 13 dall’hotel Fanar con 12 fuoristrada da “5600 cavalli” di cilindrata. 48 viaggiatori curiosi. La nostra guida è il mitico Alladin, molto esperto,preparato e fantasioso. Si attraversa il governatorato di Dhofar seguendo la statale 49 fino a Salalah, città circondata da un’oasi tropicale protetta a nord da una catena montuosa di 1800 mt che nel periodo da giugno a settembre diventa verdissima a causa del clima piovoso. Nella regione si trovano tante piccole cascate e degli wadi che vengono canalizzati per irrigare le coltivazioni di frutta e verdura. Le zone circostanti questi ruscelli d’acqua sono molto verdi e rigogliose per 4/5 mesi. Proseguendo poi per la statale 31 si attraversano le montagne. Le strade sono tagliate dentro la roccia gialla. Poche macchine tanti camion carichi di ogni genere di merci. Ci si ferma nella Valle degli alberi di incenso. Alladin ci racconta tutta la storia di questa preziosa resina oleosa partendo dai Re Magi che portarono i 3 doni più importanti ,a quel tempo, a Gesù bambino: ORO,INCENSO e MIRRA. La mirra e l’incenso si coltivano ancora qui in Oman. Ci sono 5 qualità d’incenso ma la più importante è quella che si raccoglie in queste valli: il Frankincense. È preziosissimo e viene acquistato sopratutto dal Vaticano. Le proprietà della resina sono infinite e servono a curare tante malattie. Si continua verso il deserto lambendo piccole cittadine e campi coltivati con l’utilizzo dei pivot, un diffusore di acqua circolare. Ci si ferma alle rovine della città perduta di Ubar ,l’Atlantide del Sands,inghiottita dalle sabbie del deserto e scoperta grazie alle immagini satellitari. Pochi reperti,ancora tutto da scoprire. Altra fermata all’accampamento dove vengono allevati i rari cammelli neri. Pochi km di strada asfaltata e poi finalmente le piste invisibili della grande distesa di sabbia del deserto Rub al kali, il quarto vuoto. I fuoristrada corrono su piste diverse per arrivare velocemente sulle dune di Wahiba Sands nell’ora del tramonto. Il tempo si ferma in questo spettacolo emozionante. Le dune arancione, illuminate dal sole calante,evidenziano tra luci e ombre il loro profilo. Ci si immerge nella sabbia finissima che non si attacca ai piedi. Si fatica a salire ma l’atmosfera che si respira è impagabile. Il sole scende e illumina di rosso tutti i rilievi. Le creste si sfaldano sotto i nostri piedi. La sabbia calda ci avvolge e noi silenziosi ci lasciamo rapire da questo incantesimo. Si ritorna e ci si ferma in questo grande campo tendato attrezzato con tantissime tende grandi a 2 o 3 letti. Pavimento in vinile e letti imbottiti. Nel campo e nelle tende la luce verrà spenta alle23. Ci sono quattro wc e 2 docce ma nessuno di noi si lava. Ci si pulisce con salviettine umide dateci insieme alle pile dall’organizzazione. Cena nel tendone centrale con spezzatino di cammello,pane arabo,verdure stufate e fresche, banane,datteri ,arance the e caffè. Dopo cena tutti intorno al fuoco, fumando i narghilè e ascoltando i racconti romanzati di Alladin. Sopra di noi la volta celeste stellata,luminosa e brillante. Il fuoco,le stelle i racconti: le Mille e una notte e la magia dell’universo. Non fa freddo basta un maglioncino. Nella notte stellata aiutate solo dalle pile si torna in tenda e anche qui non fa freddo. Non servono nemmeno le coperte. Morfeo ci culla fino al mattino. Alle 5 sveglia , c’è ancora buio, ci dirigiamo verso le dune vicino al campo e poco dopo l’alba colora i rilievi di rosa. Il sole fa capolino e l’atmosfera riaccende i colori. Questo nostro universo ci stupisce ancora e la natura ha il sopravvento su noi tutti. Sarà difficile dimenticare questi momenti!!!Elisabeth C
