What to expect
The Belvedere in Vienna is one of the leading museums worldwide. Its famous art collection includes works ranging from the Middle Ages to the present day.
The unique, overall complex, with its two palaces, the Upper and Lower Belvedere, and their extensive gardens, is one of the most stunning Baroque architectural ensembles in the world. In the 18th century, the Austrian general Prince Eugene of Savoy commissioned the renowned Baroque architect Johann Lukas von Hildebrandt to build a summer residence. After the death of Prince Eugene, Empress Maria Theresa acquired the entire complex and transformed the Upper Belvedere into an exhibition venue for the imperial collections – making it one of the first public museums in the world.
The Lower Belvedere, formerly the residence of Prince Eugene, is nowadays home to illustrious exhibitions.
Entry ticket only (no guided tour included). Visitors may proceed to the museums entrance directly and enjoy their visit individually.

The one really great thing about the upper museum is the cafe. I had the grilled meat entree. Massive portion of beef chicken veal and sausage, with rice, French fries and salad. On a price to value basis, it was the best meal that I have had in a week in Vienna. (Also no coverage charge)Upper Belvedere museum was interesting and gardens are really beautiful. Upper Belvedere museum was interesting and gardens are really beautiful. However lower belvedere à d klmt exhibition was a total fealure. There was this guy at the entrance asking half of the people to queue (the other half didn t have to, without any reason) Also people had to go to the locker for any kind of bag, wallet, ... whatever the site! As à result, my wife had to queue 30min for her bag , then was asked to queue Alain 30min to the locker bécasse she kept her small handbag (i don t gave à clue hy the guy didn t tell her that this hand bag also had to stay in locker the fiesta time)... during this time another guy shouted at me since my telephone was too dark. We finally decided not to enter and lost our ticket price. We stumbled into this palace as it was close to our hotel . A lovely autumns walk via the Botanical garden . The lower museum had the Klimt exhibit and it was mesmerizing. The Belvedere is a “must see.”

The Belvedere is a “must see.”If you really want to see the palace, you want the upper palace. If you want to see an art exhibit of Klimt, and just a few palatial rooms, this lower one may be your ticket. Note that it’s a full 8 minute walk back down hill to this entrance so you need not go to the other site first.
