What to expect
Don’t miss hiking in the Sierra Norte region of Oaxaca. Its vast territory has many trails of different levels, we will choose our favorite one to offer you in this full-day experience that will be the highlight of your trip. The Camino Real, a 18 km (11 miles) hike along an ancient trail that connects two towns that belong to these beautiful mountains. In pre-Hispanic times, Mesoamerica was connected by commerce routes, and one of these routes connected the Gulf of Mexico to the Pacific, via Oaxaca. This path was part of that route. You will feel the history as you walk the trail; the ancient vegetation, the mystic moss, and the old abandoned shacks will make you feel like traveling back in time.

Great hike up to the mountains. The tour guide/driver was very knowledgeable about the region and was able to give important details about the plant life. Good driver (this is important as it is a windy road) Make sure you wear comfortable shoes/hiking boots. Maybe bring a layer.

I traveled to Oaxca by myself and didn't really know any spanish. But I knew I wanted to hike and be outdoors. I came across Coyote Aventuras and couldn't have asked for a better time on the hikes that I did with them. Dylan took us up to Ixtepeji and knew so so much about the wildlife and different trails on the hike. Fernando took me up Teotitlan del Valle for sunset and both hikes were amazing. If it wasn't for these two, I'm not sure I'd find my way to these hikes. They also took us to local restaurants after the hikes + brought snacks as well. I love love love the passion they both have for the outdoors as the hikes were probably my favorite activities to do in OaxacaThe ecosystem on this Sierra Norte day hike called Forest of Ixtepeji is exceptional. Lovely guide with lots of knowledge of and respect for the area. The food we went to eat after was superb too- made by the local communities with such love and care. Extra perks: comfy ride with good tunes, easy to book, quick to respond.
