Definitely our most anticipated tour in Iceland. Our initial planning interactions were fantastic, with Carlos being really helpful in adding an additional member to our tour. On the day we arrived, our guide greeted us with a box of wafer cookies before we headed out. We met him at the designated meeting point then drove separately to the parking lot per his request. Once we arrived, we asked him repeatedly about the best way to see live lava from the recent eruption. He explained that the trail that’s closer was heavily traveled and monitored, and has been closed often once you’re the eruption site. We confirmed several times before starting out on the shorter trail. During our hike he was very patient and seemed knowledgeable, answering all of our questions. And at about 1.5 hours in, we stopped to get closer to the lava field - at which point he feet up a drone. He explained the legal distance restrictions and that we probably won’t get close enough to see live lava with it, but he’ll try. Up to this point, it was still exciting despite the fact that we couldn’t see anything beyond distant smoke from the recent eruption site. Later that night we realized that we didn’t even finished the trail - maybe hiked about 2/3 of it. What was really disappointing is finding out that we would’ve seen the new eruption site had we continued farther. We went back two days later to re-hike the trail in its entirety, and saw the most incredible, once in a lifetime site - yes, red, bubbling lava. A few days later we received an email prompting for a review, so I decided to reach out to them to see where the misunderstanding occurred - especially since we repeatedly asked about the recent eruption. The owner became extremely defensive, saying we booked the tour to the Fagradalsfjall, the 2021 eruption site and the recent eruption is different tour/location - about 11 hour hike at $189 per person. We explained that we understand now, with his explanation, but that was not communicated when we were on site. Had they explained initially, it would’ve saved us a day and a second trip to re-hike the trail. Furthermore, I suggested they clarify for the non-native tourists who are not familiar with the names of the different eruption sites. At the same time he asked “what he can do” for us, the tone made us uncomfortable enough for us to end the discussion. It was a real shame this became a negative experience for us. We really think it could’ve been avoided had there been more transparency in communications upfront, at the beginning of the tour. If it been accurately explained instead of the vaguely misleading us to believe we couldn’t hike to the site, we would’ve given the tour a 5. It was still interesting enough being our first time hiking to any eruption site. So unfortunate they felt they couldn’t tell us outright that our desired tour was a different one. I really wished we had the 5-star experience many have had. Despite the negative interactions, we still gave them the benefit of the doubt with 3 stars. So triple check to make sure the site is the one you want. Maybe do a little research so you get your desired customized tour and not end up re-hiking as we had.We did this tour with 2 families, children ranging from 8-14. My friend and I hiked for 3 hours with our tour guide, Ragga. She was absolutely wonderful! We got to see and learn so much about the volcano eruption last year. It was such a wonderful tour. Arlie was also super helpful. He recommended having our blue lagoon day after the hike instead of on another day which turned out to be a great idea! It freed up a day for us and was the perfect ending to a beautiful hike! I highly recommend this tour company and Ragga as a tour guide!!The guide was friendly and knowledgeable , taking into account fitness levels and then adjusting to extend the route to see more interesting things when we were OK. Would highly recommend to anyone
